This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [SC00]

This position may be based out of any of the following FirstEnergy locations: Akron, OH, Greensburg, PA, or Reading, PA. It reports to the Manager, Evaluation Measurement and Verification.

This position provides engineering support for the development and implementation of processes and protocols necessary to comply with legislative and regulatory requirements for energy efficiency and peak demand reduction activities across all FirstEnergy operating companies.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Developing regulatory filings, providing technical expertise and industry intelligence on energy efficiency and demand response technologies or practices, analyzing, updating and developing energy efficiency and demand response initiatives, performing or managing evaluation, research and analysis of energy efficiency and demand response programs and measures including impacts, costs and cost-effectiveness assessments. The position will also be responsible for developing and promoting corporate positions and strategies in various stakeholder settings. This position will interact with customers, regulatory agencies, customer group representatives, other industry personnel and senior management personnel:

  • Supporting or managing the Ohio Mercantile energy efficiency program in coordination with other Company energy efficiency programs.

  • Reviewing evaluation documents (e.g., evaluation reports, studies, customer surveys) for technical merit and communication of results with the Energy Efficiency Implementation group and Communications. Support development of FirstEnergy's quarterly and annual compliance filing reports with the State Regulatory agencies.

  • Coordinating and performing analysis related to program operations using actual and forecasted data to monitor program performance, inform energy efficiency program planning, development and implementation activities, and to recommend changes to maximize program savings to support achievement of compliance requirements.

  • Reviewing proposed regulatory or legislative changes related to Energy Efficiency and peak demand reduction programs and providing assessments and recommendations to shape corporate policy and assist in lobbying efforts.

  • Coordinating and participating in working groups in the development of energy efficiency and demand response plans and processes to achieve the legislated or regulated conservation and peak demand reduction targets (MD, NJ, OH, PA, WV).

  • Developing and providing technical expertise and industry intelligence on emerging, best practice and new energy efficiency and demand response technologies through research, participation in industry events, benchmarking and other analysis to improve program portfolios, support program development and implementation activities and to ensure compliance based on best practices or other improvements. Includes developing summaries, comparisons, communications and recommendations. This position will also serve as a "thought leader" and technical resource for fellow employees.

  • Developing and providing expertise in PJM markets and programs; supporting development of internal positions related to FE participation in PJM markets and programs; developing and performing FE participation in PJM markets as deemed appropriate or required.

  • Establishing and implementing technical processes, protocols and metering to comply with state regulatory requirements and/or PJM requirements for the performance, evaluation, measurement and verification (EM&V) of energy efficiency and demand response programs.

  • Securing, coordinating, and overseeing contractors conducting evaluation, measurement and verification analysis on energy efficiency initiatives at residential, commercial and industrial customer facilities and ensure proper coordination with Statewide Evaluator responsibilities and audits.

  • Contract management including invoice review and forecasting spend.

  • Reviewing evaluation documents (e.g., evaluation reports, studies, customer surveys) for technical merit and communication of results with the Energy Efficiency Implementation group and Communications. Support development of FirstEnergy's quarterly and annual compliance filing reports with the State Regulatory agencies.

  • Coordinating and performing analysis related to program operations using actual and forecasted data to monitor program performance, inform energy efficiency program planning, development and implementation activities, and to recommend changes to maximize program savings to support achievement of compliance requirements.

  • Managing, analyzing and communicating state and regional protocols and standards for assessment of energy savings and demand impacts for energy efficiency and demand response programs.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Mechanical Engineering (BSME) required

  • Professionally certified engineer (PE License) preferred

  • Minimum 0-7 years professional work experience required

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). SAP experience preferred. Background in PJM programs a plus.

  • Must possess working knowledge of energy efficiency products and technologies, customer electricity usage patterns, rate pricing structures, and state regulatory policies.

  • Must demonstrate ability to effectively present complex subject matter to all levels of management, and develop effective working relationships with employees at all levels of FirstEnergy Corp.

  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships.

  • Model active learning through continuing to develop breadth of knowledge, skills, and perspective. Desire to continue to learn and grow, work across FirstEnergy, deliver results, and manage others.

[SC00] The positions in the Right of Way group report to the Supervisor, Right of Way Services. The positions are accountable for activities associated with the acquisition of fee property, right of way, licenses, leases necessary to support company transmission infrastructure project work. Property and right of way acquisitions require evaluating proposed sites, determining property values, obtaining title, survey, environmental assessment and zoning requirements (if any), coordinating due diligence and securing legal documents to accomplish transactions. Acquisition analysis involves performing rights and restrictions review to determine real estate / right of way requirements. There are two (2) openings; one located in Akron, Ohio and one located in Reading, Pennsylvania.
