Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
9 Years with Bachelors in Science; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary technical interface with CVN 78 class Nuclear Propulsion Test Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Trades by providing engineering support related to the construction and testing of the PPMC System. Serve as a technical resource and cognizant owner for emergent design issues (RLARs/LARs/eIRs) to provide timely support to Ship's Force and the Construction Trades.
Manage the PPMC System electrical schematics, construction drawings, and vendor drawings. Ensure all required procedures, design documents, and drawings needed for PPMC System construction and testing are issued technically correct and on schedule.
Serve as a lead engineer in preparing engineering change proposals and cost estimates for CVN 78 class Ship Alternation (ShipAlt) packages. Serve as a subject matter expert regarding ShipAlt activities to ensure that project needs and objectives are met. Oversee the technical aspects of the ShipAlt Information Package (SIP) development. Interface with all lead technical sections and stakeholders involved in the development of ShipAlt products throughout the SIP development. Ensure ShipAlt products are developed in accordance with the latest approved requirements. Parse nuclear and non-nuclear work activities to the appropriate teams, ensure products use proper formats, and invoke of the correct administrative requirements/procedures.
Manage the IO allocations for all field devices interfacing with PPMC. Ensure vendor provided products match approved configuration documentation.
Serve as an assistant to Engineering Management in planning, directing, and coordinating all ShipAlt and/or new construction activities with other departments and functional groups.
Perform technical reviews and provide comments/recommendations to vendor drawings and ship integration documentation.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, Engineering Technology, or equivalent technical degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
10+ years of engineering or product development experience.
Demonstrated experience in successful project management.
Demonstrates excellent organizational and team leadership skills.
Experience in building and leading cross-disciplinary project teams.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Well-rounded engineering experience Design, develop, integrate and test the systems/subsystems for shipboard use
Extensive experience of planning, project management, and design
Able to run engineering projects from inception to success
Ability to monitor, supervise, coordinate and manage junior staff
Strong experience in all areas of instrumentation and control
Resolving complex technical issues and coming up with fast efficient solutions
Experience in developing interface requirements and detailed interface design documentations of the PPMC System.
