Job Summary

The Kentucky Transportation Center (KTC) seeks applicants for a full-time staff Research Engineer II position in the Pavement, Materials, Geotechnical, and Infrastructure Assessment Group. (PMGIA). Prospective applicants should be interested in multidisciplinary transportation research and working on a broad range of topics. The PMGIA Group performs research in several areas for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, including pavement design, construction, infrastructure preservation and rehabilitation, roadway forensic analysis, highway drainage assessment, geotechnical investigations, and remote sensing with mobile and stationary LiDAR.

Prospective applicants should have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, possess two-years experience in one of the areas listed above, and be a licensed Professional Engineer eligible for reciprocity in Kentucky. The Research Engineer II performs literature reviews, conducts field and laboratory testing, works on data collection and analysis, reports findings to the research team, and presents findings to clients.

The Research Engineer II is expected to help build lasting partnerships with our clients, transportation organizations, and transportation agencies. Candidates with less research experience or knowledge outside of the areas listed above may be considered on a case-by-case basis based on their qualifications.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Facility with office softwares and understanding of operational premises of statistical analysis, database management, geographic information systems adn itnernets/intranets.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience

Advanced research - typical of a Master's degree. Driver's license preferred.
