Position Overview

Serves as an Engineer in the Structures Engineering group. Utilizes good judgement, technical expertise and practical experience, providing engineering support to Base, Line and Shop Operations. Designs and evaluates sheet metal and composite repairs on Boeing and Airbus aircraft structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Knowledgeable about corrosion mitigation on aircraft structures

  • Familiar with fatigue, strength of materials and aircraft structures

  • Researches and provides recommendations to aircraft structures items by working with OEM, vendors, MROs, HAL maintenance and maintenance control

  • Serves as a project engineer for assigned area. Possesses applicable knowledge for large commercial aircraft in Part 121 operation

  • Provide technical assistance to line, base, shop and check maintenance team

  • Authors engineering projects, repairs and develops technical data as needed to support HAL aircraft.

  • Researches, recommends and approves modifications, repairs or part alternatives

  • Substantiates the repairs in accordance with industry accepted practices and Federal Aviation Administration applicable requirements

  • Reviews documents including Service Bulletins, FARs, Airworthiness Directives, and other manufacturer issued publications

  • Research, recommend and approve modifications or part alternatives

  • Interface with equipment vendors, industry partners, MRO providers and regulatory authorities

  • Collaboration with HAL Planning, MROs, QA, Supply, Materials and Maintenance for process improvements as needed

  • Participates in resolution of design and improvements to maintenance programs & procedures as needed

  • Prepares, creates, reviews and approves engineering documentation in accordance to HAL Engineering Standard Operating Procedures and processes

  • Professional development and other related duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineering or BS Degree from an accredited University, or if no degree, 5+ years as an aircraft mechanic

  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (Parts 25, 121, etc.). Familiarity with Airworthiness Directives and Manufacturer Service Bulletins

  • Proficient in common office applications, as well as AUTOCAD /Solidworks software

  • Good organizational and prioritization skills

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to summarize complex technical matters

  • Ability to work any shift, and work flexible hours beyond regular scheduled hours, including weekends and holidays and non-traditional hours, promptly respond after hours, and travel as needed, is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated familiarity and proficiency in HAL engineering process and procedures, involved in resolution of design and reliability improvements to aircraft systems and maintenance programs and procedures

  • Demonstrated proficiency in HAL engineering process and procedures. Works effectively with little supervision and provides proactive engineering support to mechanics while adhering to safety requirements

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of aircraft maintenance and specification documents, particularly AMM, SRM, IPC and OEM drawings

  • Familiarity with TRAX maintenance software, particularly engineering module

We're recruiting candidates for our upcoming training class beginning in February 2019. Training runs for 8 weeks, typically Monday through Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, and is conducted at our Corporate Offices. Aircraft Mechanic Duties: * Is responsible for accomplishing assigned maintenance, preventative maintenance and repair work on Hawaiian Airlines aircraft(s) * Makes certain that all safety and accident prevention measures are adhered to and corrective action taken as warranted * Inspects parts, sub-assemblies and completed assemblies only to the extent necessary to determine, accomplish and approve own work * Responsible for the repairing, servicing and maintenance of aircraft systems, powerplants, airframes, avionics and components * Performs machine tool work in connection with the above mechanic maintenance work * Accountable for production and assistance in interpretation and resolution of aircraft discrepancies * Initiate, execute and sign forms, tags and other paperwork in accordance with the appropriate maintenance manuals. Review all paperwork for completeness and signatures. Release aircraft for service in accordance with Hawaiian Airlines maintenance logbook procedures * Shall be required to return an aircraft to service after maintenance had been performed as allowed by the GMM and the privileges of the FAA Airframe and Powerplant license * Accountable for the general up keep of ground equipment in support of all maintenance activities assigned to them * Accountable for proper use and maintenance of equipment that's used to service, maintain and repair aircraft DOT regulations, 14 CFR Part 120 identifies this position as performing safety-sensitive functions. You will be required to undergo DOT pre-employment drug testing to determine the presence of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opiates, PCP (Phencyclidine) and Amphetamine prior to any offer of employment or transfer into this position.
