About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T&D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 15 million residents via SCE's 5 million customer accounts.
This position is an Engineer 2 within the Apparatus and Linear Standards/Tech Transfer group within Southern California Edison (SCE)'s Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Organization. This is a group of Engineers responsible for developing and updating the T&D standards for SCE's electric grid.
This successful candidate will work collaboratively with a wide range of cross-functional groups across SCE, within engineering as well as field personnel teams (i.e. with apparatus engineers, field engineers, planning, field personnel and training) leading creation efforts of new, complex and highly technical standards. The Engineer 2 will present the proposed standard updates to impacted Stakeholders, communicate new/revised standards to T&D personnel, and assist in the development of reference documents in support of those standards.
This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager of the Apparatus and Linear Standards/Tech Transfer department, under the Asset Management Strategy and Engineering (AMS&E) Organization of T&D.
Develop and update transmission and distribution standards and present proposed new standards, updates or revisions to Stakeholders for feedback and approval prior to standard publication
Support & resolve field inquiries and requests from T&D personnel as it pertains to standards
Present and communicate new & revised standards to planning and operations and assist in the development of training job aides or other reference documents in support of standards
Work with key Subject Matter Experts to drive for solutions to issues rising from standard updates
Undertake projects, multi-functional challenges that often require cross-functional teams.
Engineering and economic analysis of various technical issues
Support in the development and mentoring of engineering interns and entry level engineers within the team
Create and maintain a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices
Performs other duties and responsibilities as the need arises
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or in scientific/technical field
Two (2) or more years of Engineering experience
Broad knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, practices, and advanced engineering principles necessary to perform very complex or unique assignments
California P.E. License
Demonstrated knowledge of Distribution and Transmission standards, specification, and standards development
Demonstrated knowledge of General Order and Industry standards (e.g. GO95/128/165, IEEE, IEC, ANSI, ASTM), codes and practices
Experience in leading and/or participating in cross-functional teams to address and solve business and engineering issues
Experience developing and communicating ideas and information effectively to diverse audiences through oral presentations and written communications, specifically developing and delivering technical presentation
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel
Demonstrated ability to complete assign task with minimum supervision. (remove)
Experience gathering, understanding, integrating, and synthesizing complex information in order to propose standard changes, make recommendations, and propose action plans
Demonstrated ability to interface effectively and collaborate with clients, peers, project personnel, and all levels of management enterprise-wide to develop solutions and ensure stakeholder buy-in
Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship
Position may require up to 25% travel and/or local visits between SCE facilities & substations
