Job Description Summary

In this exciting role, the Engine Test / Powerplant Engineer is involved in supporting Engine Test issues at production and overhaul shops. This is a chance to shine as a leader across multiple groups with the opportunity to present to Senior Leaders, Technical Reviews, and PCB. The Engine Test / Powerplant Engineer becomes the Technical Expert the business calls on to resolve technical issues at test. The Engine Test / Powerplant Engineer will interact with World Class Test Teams, Quality, Assembly, Engineering, GE Aerospace shops, and 3rd party Aerospace suppliers to solve systemic issues impacting Test, FTY and Lead Time. The Engine Test / Powerplant Engineer stays engaged with the Global Test Teams, sharing knowledge, and providing support to the Test community through participation in Global meetings and conferences. The Engine Test / Powerplant Engineer will lead or participate in LEAN events, action workouts, Six Sigma analyses, and FLIGHT DECK our systematic approach to running our business to deliver exceptional value as measured through the eyes of our Customers. This is an opportunity to be closely involved with Engines at Test and Assembly.

Job Description

This is a leadership opportunity to impact the business KPIs/metrics, driving improved yields, faster lead times, and reduced cost.

Essential Responsibilities:

In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to resolve technical engine test issues as well as implement systemic fixes to effect short and long term business goals. This role is a recognized focal point for the assigned program's test throughput and will provide a broad level of visibility to plant leaders, department general managers and engine program general managers. You will also:

  • Lead engine test support function and sickbay meetings to resolve production test yield issues. This will involve troubleshooting of issues from design, part manufacturing, assembly and test. In addition to production, provide test support to GE overhaul shops as needed.

  • Drive cost out projects within the assembly and test operations in ATO.

  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project.

  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments.

  • Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.

  • Present program yield status in technical and program reviews.

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.

  • Define and control production process including tooling and equipment.

  • Validate design specifications and shop floor application of new product, tools, or equipment. Includes Manufacturing Engineers.

  • Is considered a senior and seasoned practitioner.

  • Works on complex technological solutions.

  • Solving issues and developing new solutions require usage of methods and approaches with some precedence.

  • Has authority in the network of experts and in project teams.

  • Presents product / program strategies, technical roadmaps, risks and recommendations to senior leaders (EB and SEB) across GE.

  • Inputs and influences decisions within own discipline and area.

  • Communicates recommendations and solutions across direct organization and with cross-functional partner organizations.

  • Involved in complex decision making sometimes with external parties.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelors Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited college or university and 5+ years of production engine test, process & equipment experience required.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Six Sigma certification and/or FLIGHT DECK experience desired.

  • Solid foundational knowledge of engine assembly and operation.

  • Strong use of analytical skills and demonstrated leadership.

  • Previous experience communicating and/or working with various engineering groups, Dynamics, Performance, Mechanical Systems.

  • Humble: respectful, receptive, agile, eager to learn.

  • Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
