This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.

As part of a passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will lead the team testing Engines for various Vehicle configurations. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of aerospace manufacturing while working with the team to keep the shop and test stand functioning at a high level.

The Engine Technician Supervisor is responsible for the coordination and effectiveness of a highly motivated team of individuals with a common goal of testing engines and providing our customer with a Quality Product. This Supervisor is a Liaison between the technician team and Blue Engine programs at Test Stand 4670. The Supervisor will take technical direction from the engineering team and turn it into reality by building, retaining, and managing their team effectively, distributing labor resources, prioritizing certain aspects of the tasks, and maintaining team morale. The Supervisor is also a facilitator and driver of a productive, fun, and hard-working culture.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise shop floor, test stand activity, including daily schedules and workflow

  • Lead and manage a staff of ~15 technicians including all performance management related tasks

  • Review work instructions and make change recommendations when needed

  • Assess and vet appropriate abilities/trade-skills as needed

  • Identify training needs, develop training programs and work with shop managers to train team members.

  • Provide required data and reporting to support departmental metrics and improvement objectives

  • Monitor labor hours and overtime, and implement improvement plans and time management with staff

  • Accomplish production results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising job results

  • Effectively organize, assign, and supervise work/results for the team, ensuring seamless progression through multi-shift work schedules

  • Initiate and champion a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.

  • Maintain a healthy and motivated Team environment.

  • Ensure product quality and conformance to specifications

  • Improve area safety and efficiency through regular auditing and continuous improvement

  • Continuously improve process, utilization, productivity as well as workforce efficiency.

  • Ability to utilize interpersonal and communication techniques, working in a team environment, and taking care of a wide variety of personalities and communication styles.

  • Can travel for short and extended trips as needed, up to 15% to other Blue Origin Test sites.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate

  • 5+ years of experience in production/manufacturing, military, aviation, aerospace, mechanical systems, construction, or automotive.

  • 3+ years of proven experience leading a team to a project's success.

  • Proven experience working with and troubleshooting mechanical systems, high pressure fluid/pneumatic systems, or valve components.

  • Ability to follow schematics or electrical diagrams.

  • Experience working on and around cryogenic systems such as LOX, LN2, GH2 and LNG.

  • In depth experience concerning fluid fittings such as AN, MS, compression fittings etc.

  • Must be willing to work all required shift hours, including overtime and weekends, as needed.

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

  • Must be eligible to gain access to Redstone Arsenal

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • A&P License or any other certification concerning Mechanical Proficiency.

  • Experience applying lean manufacturing principles and efficiency methods

  • Experience in final assembly and production in a fast-paced manufacturing aerospace or aviation environment

  • Experience bringing teams and processes from development R&D to production is highly desirable

  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability, kaizen, lean manufacturing, six sigma, and failure mode effects analysis

  • Excellent concentration and attention to detail with outstanding work efficiency and accuracy
