Job overview and responsibilities
The Analytics and Innovation (Ai) team at United Airlines works to innovate, transform, and solve complex business problems resulting in significant and measurable enterprise impact through the application of deep cross-functional business expertise and advanced analytics. We work with business and technology partners across the enterprise (e.g. Personalization, Digital Products, Customer and Contact Centers) to influence strategic decisions, enterprise strategy, business process, and to help connect the dots across the enterprise. Advanced Analytics team members within Ai leverage expertise using big data, analytics, data manipulation, statistics, and modeling to drive innovation and improvement in United's business strategy and operations, that increase revenue, increase customer satisfaction, reduce costs, or have other measurable impact on the airline.
Engagement Managers often play a lead role on projects. They are experienced individual contributors who work hands-on with data, leveraging their expertise to provide solutions, while mentoring and collaborating with other team members as well.
Apply data analysis, data mining, data transformation, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques to understand and solve business problems
Collaborate with analytics, technology, and business team members across the enterprise to identify opportunities and align on and deploy solutions to business problems
Manage relationships with teams external to Ai
Actively seeks opportunities to innovate by using non-traditional data and new analytics methodologies
Help facilitate idea generation and share best practices and new findings with others
Helps create and deliver presentations for United leadership and external stakeholders
Lead or support status meetings and the frequent communication to key stakeholders at varying levels of United leadership
Leads analytics projects by helping define solutions, applying basic project management techniques to distribute work among teammates, execute efficiently, and communicate to stakeholders effectively
Assists with talent acquisition process, mentors junior team members, and facilitates training as needed with reusable content and delivery of training sessions

Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Quantitative Field such as Statistics, Engineering, Business Analytics, Aviation management, Information systems and/or equivalent work experience
4+ years of experience in an analytical role (analysis, information science, data visualization, or other relevant quantitative fields
Ability to work with large datasets and/or Big Data using SQL, Python, or other database programming languages
Ability to tell a story with data using reporting and data visualization tools (e.g., Spotfire, Tableau, Microsoft BI)
Proven proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Passionate about data analytics and visionary for how it can be applied, with strong strategic/critical thinking and problem-solving skills to complement
Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork
Ability to communicate complex quantitative concepts in a clear, precise, and actionable manner, through written and verbal presentation skills
Must exhibit written and spoken English fluency
Must have high energy, be self-motivated, and possess a positive attitude
Exhibit intellectual curiosity and strive to continually learn and develop technical and soft skills
Ability to put definition and structure around problems and projects
Strong organization skills, and attention to detail
Be adept at juggling several projects and initiatives simultaneously through appropriate prioritization

Understanding of Machine Learning and/or optimization tools and techniques
Understanding of Statistical tools (R, SPSS, SAS) and ability to apply concepts to derive insights
