Energy/Sustainability Manager

The Energy/Sustainability Manager is responsible for energy conservation, company sustainability programs, messaging and implementing sustainable initiatives as well as utilities usage and cost saving programs. The Energy/Sustainability Manager oversees energy procurement, utilities consultant management, waste management program and zero waste initiatives, utility cost reduction, and energy management systems. This position is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, piloting and implementing gas, water, electric and waste improvement technology. This position provides input to design and construction to optimize the design and maintenance of stores from an engineering standpoint to enhance store functionality and energy use. The Energy/Sustainability Manager may also require support for the engineering function focused on improving the design and maintenance of Panda stores to increase equipment reliability and reduce repair and maintenance costs.

Essential Functions:

The essential functions in this job description are not all-inclusive of this job's duties and responsibilities.

  • Oversees energy procurement and conservation, waste removal, utility cost reduction, and energy management systems. Seeks ways to reduce energy, water, sewage and trash costs at Panda stores.

  • Procures natural gas and electricity through supply agreements. Negotiates contracts to attain energy at the best possible rates. Manages all cost reduction possibilities related to utilities.

  • Researches and evaluates potential energy and water saving technologies, coordinating with other RD functions and departments as appropriate. Proposes, plans, and implements energy saving programs as well as utility rebate opportunities.

  • Works closely with Operations and with Facilities Managers on utility and related issues. Supports Facilities Managers and GMs with problem resolution and with roll out of new technologies, systems, and equipment.

  • Optimizes the design and maintenance of stores from an engineering standpoint to enhance store functionality for associates and guests. Identifies ways to increase equipment reliability and reduce repair and maintenance costs.

  • Partners with Design and Construction to integrate field experience into store design; conducts engineering evaluation related to existing design and equipment, and tracks industry innovations and trends.

  • Works with Marketing, Public Relations and CDO on corporate Sustainability message and programs that support efforts the company makes related to sustainability. Provides advice and training to stakeholder departments related to sustainability and energy reduction projects

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, Energy Management or Engineering required

  • Minimum five years of energy/sustainability experience with increasing management responsibility, preferably in the retail/hospitality environment

  • Successful completion of annual store training

Position Overview: The Energy Market Specialist rotational role in Energy Procurement and Management (EPM) is geared toward early-career professionals to serve as an in-depth introduction to renewable resource procurement, emerging energy technologies, wholesale energy market transactions, and California Independent System Operator (CAISO) energy market operations. Rotational Analysts will utilize their analytical proficiency and collaboration skills to support EPM's energy contracting, planning, trading, forecasting and valuation, and market operation activities by rotating through several functional groups, all critical to providing safe, reliable, affordable, and clean energy to SCE's customers. For approximately 2 years, the rotational Energy Market Specialist(s) would rotate through various roles in EPM. Potential groups for rotation include forecasting and valuation, contract management, contract origination, settlements, compliance, center of excellence, and trade floor operations. The successful candidate(s) will play a critical cross-functional role between establishing (and administering) contracts to meet SCE's business and compliance needs and integrating, forecasting, bidding, scheduling, and settling these resources with the CAISO to participate in the energy and ancillary services markets. After completion of the rotational program, participants are expected to graduate from the program with the skills and experience required to fill a variety of EPM roles. Responsibilities include: * Solve complex problems and perform analyses of new business situations through coordination across EPM teams. * Build relationships between SCE and counterparties through project development, amendments, consents, and on-going contract administration. * Lead cross-department teams in the administration of short- and long-term energy contracts with Independent Power Producers, financial institutions and other market participants. * Evaluate and manage contract requirements, review payments, manage disputes and make strategic recommendations to maximize benefits to customers. * Update forecast and operational data and utilize simulation/optimization models to develop least-cost dispatch plans for SCE's generating resources and power contracts. * Assist in bidding strategy coordination, implementation, and after the fact analysis for a complex portfolio of resources. * Utilize after the fact analysis to enhance the planning process, strategies, tools and overall utilization of SCE's supply portfolio. * Analyze market trends in the energy and ancillary services markets. Use and improve statistical and econometric models to forecast electricity demand and energy commodity prices to support position management and hedging. * Perform contract valuations for conventional, renewable and distributed energy resource solicitations and bilateral negotiations. * Support congestion revenue rights procurement to hedge energy congestion risk. * Identify and execute process improvement opportunities across EPM. * Maintain a safety-conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices. * Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned Minimum Requirements: * Must have graduated in the past 24 months or will graduate by June 2020 with a Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Statistics, or related fields. * Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint * Experience with quantitative analysis.
