The Operational Energy Test Bed (OETB) assists the US ARMY, NAVY, AIR FORCE, and SOF by evaluating the performance of soldier-worn electrical equipment for its power consumption, reporting on its anomalies, suggesting means to save power when used by soldiers, and making recommendations for their corrections in its future versions. OETB measurements of power consumption feed calculations estimating the number and types of batteries needed by soldiers to ensure mission success. Over the years, the OETB has become the go-to lab for analyses of performance from individual pieces of equipment to complete soldier-worn systems for their energy consumption, production, and storage under recreated/simulated operational conditions. Since 2019, the OETB has been assessing prototypes and systems whose components have not been vetted for their compatibility. A subset of these sponsors is also looking for guidance from the OETB and partner organizations on the development of soldier-worn complex, versatile, efficient, open standard, electrical power distribution systems and more. The OETB is looking to add a technically proficient, curious, and enthusiastic member to its team.
Understand the sponsor's objectives for which tests are to be conducted
Develop test plans to characterize equipment and systems
Design and build power measurement components for new equipment/system testing
Determine the specifications of instruments supplementing existing measurement capabilities
Recommend means to automate tests which integrate with existing test capabilities
Communicate with Subject Matter Experts when requesting assistance with equipment/system configuration
Execute test plans
Troubleshoot and mitigate challenging test circumstances, e.g., RF interferences
Analyze test data in a timely fashion to determine adequacy of data quality
Process test data and apply and/or develop metrics which reveal strengths and weaknesses of tested equipment/system
Make recommendations on ways to circumvent identified limitations in the tested equipment/ system as well as improvements to future revisions
Compose a high-quality deliverable which meets/exceeds sponsor's objectives
Present results to sponsors
All above responsibilities can be conducted either as an independent individual or as a member of a highly technical and knowledgeable Team
Thoughtfully support to team members in their growth
Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineer and 2 years of relevant experience
Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or applicants who are eligible for security clearances.
MS in Electrical Engineering (EE) or BS in EE with 3 years of directly applicable experience
Demonstrated proficiency in 1) power/energy measurements of electrical, optical (visible & IR), and RF signals; and 2) light & RF propagation.
Demonstrated ability to perform detail oriented work
Familiarity with architectures and/or standards combining power and data distribution
Fluency in MATLAB for data processing, analysis, and plotting
Familiarity with LabView
Exhibits a can-do attitude with the ability to anticipate contingency plans
Effective at adjusting test schedules due to unexpected circumstances
Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills.
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret clearance which will require US citizenship
MS in Electrical Engineering (EE) with 3 years experience or BS in EE with 5 years of directly applicable experience
Possess and SECRET clearance
