Rely on specialized knowledge of operations, warehousing, regulations, and customer requirements to safely optimize plant efficiency. Essential Job Functions
  • Plan routes for delivery of fuel products to including heating oil, kerosene, diesel, gasoline, and/or liquid propane. Assign delivery routes and schedules to petroleum operations team members. Maintain regular communication with drivers and facility leadership on equipment condition, supply of materials, account issues and other critical factors to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Effectively operate SSC commercial motor vehicles carrying fuel products, including: heating oil, kerosene, diesel, gasoline, and liquid propane. Comply with all U.S. DOT regulations for operating a commercial vehicle.
  • Load supply of fuel for delivery according to standard operating procedures. Handle and lift canisters into truck and/or utilize load hose, meters, gauges, and terminal controls for bulk fuel loading (top load and bottom load). Obtain distribution of fuel from SSC facility or third party terminals.
  • Provide safe, reliable and prompt delivery to customers according to work orders and account service plans. Handle, lift, load and unload equipment and supplies using proper tools and safety techniques. Calibrate equipment to proper settings. Perform calculations throughout shift to maintain accurate record of fuel supply for remaining deliveries.
  • Represent SSC in a positive manner through professional and courteous communication with customers and suppliers. Review account details with customers during deliveries. Provide information on delivered products and equipment, including loaned equipment and transfers. Collect account payments. Confirm future deliveries with customers to maintain their required inventory. Discuss additional SSC fuel services which many benefit the customer and refer to appropriate sales representative for follow-up as necessary.
  • Depending upon location, perform on-site installation of fuel equipment for new customers, general maintenance, adjustments and/or repair work to equipment and systems.
  • Properly utilize and maintain equipment and vehicles. Lead, assign, and perform preventive maintenance and repair work to keep equipment and vehicles in good working condition. Advise facility leadership of complex equipment issues to ensure timely repair or replacement. Maintain up-to-date equipment and vehicle maintenance records.
  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to individuals and small groups. Effectively demonstrate skills and communicate step-by-step procedures to transfer technical knowledge of daily operations including loading and dispensing fuels, servicing related equipment, vehicle maintenance, inventory management and customer support.
  • Oversee incoming and outgoing fuel products and equipment at the SSC facility. Assign and perform loading and unloading utilizing proper equipment, including a forklift. Verify accuracy of products to shipping documentation. Inspect merchandise for damage.
  • Lead physical inventory of fuel products and related parts and equipment. Update inventory management systems to ensure accurate records and generate documents. Adhere to inventory control initiatives.
  • Complete and maintain assigned written reports, logs, documents and automated systems accurately and in a timely manner according to facility procedures. Review documentation prepared by petroleum drivers as directed.
  • Lead and participate in specialized training, certification courses, and/or meetings as requested. Continue to develop techniques useful in propane and petroleum delivery, installation and servicing of accounts, daily operations and maintenance, safety, leadership, and other skills to enhance job performance.

  • Lead and perform all related cleaning of equipment, vehicle and work areas according to Housekeeping Plan and SSC procedures. Maintain clean and orderly work area by keeping tools and equipment in proper places. Minimize waste and properly dispose of waste material. Be proactive with cleaning efforts and demonstrate excellent housekeeping habits as a leader in the SSC facility.
  • Monitor co-workers for safe operation of equipment, provide leadership in promoting safety, work safely as to not cause harm to yourself, customers and property, co-workers, equipment, or inventory. Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. Operate all equipment and vehicles according to SSC policy and government regulations. Comply with OSHA regulations, Southern States Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards, work rules and policies.
  • Perform all other job functions as assigned.
What you need to succeed:Education:

Education: Requires a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience: Requires minimum of three (3) years of experience in a Petroleum Driver role or equivalent and demonstrated leadership skills. Previous Southern States work experience a plus.

Licensing requirements vary by location and are based on state/federal regulations.

    • Requires Commercial Driver's License (Class B or Class A)
    • Requires Hazardous Materials Endorsement (or ability to obtain within a given period)
    • May require Tanker and/or Air Brake Endorsements (or ability to obtain within a given period)
    • Requires Petroleum and/or Propane Certification
    • Prefer Gas Fitter's License in some locations
