Job Duties and Qualifications

  • Provide energy modeling for new construction and existing buildings

  • Provide building energy auditing and retro-commissioning services

  • Provide energy trend data analysis for systems, buildings and campuses

  • Consult building owners and architect on sustainable design strategies and operations

  • Perform site investigations, energy savings calculations, develop cost estimates and written descriptions of energy conservation measures in support of design build energy cost savings proposals and technical audits

  • Provide planning or analysis for repairs, upgrades or replacements of building systems to assist each building in becoming more energy efficient.

  • Sustainable Design and Operations experience

  • Energy Modeling and Simulation experience

  • High Performance Building Design experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, physics or other quantitative science (EIT, PE registration preferred)

  • 0-5 years' experience with energy consulting, building engineering and/or building science

  • Knowledge of MEP systems and sustainable building design

  • LEED AP or equivalent certifications preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills

  • Excellent time management skills

  • Experience presenting technical/analytical information in a clear and concise manner

Preferred Qualifications

  • Energy modeling experience preferred (IES, EnergyPlus, eQuest, CBECC-com, etc.)
  • Programing and data analytic experience (Python, R, SQL, VBA, etc.)
  • Business analytic and dashboarding experience (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Experience with predictive data analytics and machine learning algorithms

Activities include monitoring and responding to refinery operational conditions, implementing and supporting Mechanical Integrity Department initiatives, and providing technical input for Maintenance and Project Engineering objectives. Responsibilities May Include * Participate and promote all aspects of the refinery's safety programs. Visibly demonstrate commitment to workplace safety of employees and contractors through personal engagement, direct communication, and lead by example. * Provide analyses for remaining equipment and piping life and assist in establishing schedules for repairs and/or replacement, and inspections. * Resolve problems involving damage mechanisms such as corrosion or other forms of equipment deterioration and provide recommendations for repairs, modifications, and replacements. * Participate in Damage Mechanism Reviews and the establishment of Systems and Circuits. * Perform and/or coordinate failure analyses (e.g., root cause analyses) and special inspections and determine the need for outside contractor consultation or specialized engineer services. * Perform and/or coordinate Fitness-for-Service and Risk-Based Inspection evaluations. * Design, review, and/or coordinate approval of on-stream repairs for fixed equipment and piping. * Evaluate and resolve issues related to fixed equipment/pipe supports, expansion joints, spring hangers and perform stress and flexibility analyses to develop practical and safe solutions. * Provide technical support for all components of critical bolted flange connections. * Assist in the development of unit Turnaround scope. * Provide technical input and review of Capital Projects, including the review of new or replacement fixed equipment to assure compliance with refinery standards and industry codes, and process technical evaluations through the Management of Change process. * Review effectiveness of on-site corrosion control chemical and corrosion monitoring programs. * Review changes in unit operations impacting mechanical integrity. * Keep current reliability operating parameters and respond to and follow-up on reliability operating limit exceedances. * Provide technical oversight and support implementation of company mechanical integrity standards (e.g., Sulfidation, Injection and Mix Points, HTHA, Atmospheric Overhead Corrosion). * Provide proposals for inspection and fixed equipment related expense and capital budgets. * Participate in the development of complex welding procedures such as dissimilar materials and on-stream welding or alternative weld procedures such as tempered bead applications or in-lieu of PWHT and provide technical review of complex repairs through the IWR (Inspection Work Request) process. * Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (e.g., HAZOPs) for mechanical integrity impact. * Develop, present, and/or sponsor training in mechanical integrity topics. * Have working knowledge, apply, and understand pertinent industry codes and standards such as ASME, API, NBIC. Position Requirements Basic/Required: * Legally authorized to work in the job posting country * Bachelor's degree in Engineering * 2 or more years of experience in the oil and gas industry * Proficient with Microsoft Office Preferred: * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Materials, Metallurgical, or Corrosion Engineering * 5 or more years of experience in the oil and gas industry * Woring knowledge of corrosion, metallurgy, design, inspection techniques * Proficient in Equity Engineering Plant Manager, RBI, and PCMS software packages * Proficient with API * Proficient in performing a variety of Level 1 and Level 2 Fitness for Service calculations * Knowledge and understanding of the following codes: * ASME I, II, VIII, and IX * ANSI B31.1, 31.3, and 16.5 * CCR Title 8 * NBIC * API 510, 530, 570, 571, 653 * Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment The Los Angeles Refinery consists of two linked facilities located five miles apart in Carson and Wilmington, California. The Carson facility processes crude oil, and the Wilmington facility upgrades the intermediate products to finished products. The facilities include crude distillation, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking and delayed coking units. The refinery processes mainly heavy, high-sulfur crude oil. It receives domestic crude oil by pipeline from California, Canadian crude via rail, and both foreign and domestic crude oil by tanker through a third-party terminal in the Port of Long Beach. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. The refinery produces CARB-grade gasoline. Other products include petroleum coke.
