Summary:
An endoscopy technician is a clinical assistant who supports and assists gastroenterology (GI) specialists while they use endoscopes to perform exploratory procedures of the stomach, colon, and esophagus.
Some of these endoscopic procedures include colonoscopy visualization and biopsy specimen collection.
Computer proficiency in an endoscopic software program may also be a component of this position.
An important part of the job also includes strict adherence to infection control measures in regard to endoscope reprocessing.
Position Responsibilities:
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
Endoscopy technician must hold a certification in endoscopy technology (gained within three months of employment) or be certified from a surgical technology training program (prior to employment).
On the job training / certification will be provided.
Required Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, with training offered on the job in entry-level positions.
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
Basic Life Support (BLS).
