Position Summary

Has a wide range of specialized duties in the endoscopy setting. They must already have the skills of an Endoscopy Technician; possess a thorough understanding of endoscopy equipment, high level disinfection of scope and devices; and supplies and display above average interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact with staff, physicians, vendors, and other department personnel.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Licensure:

  • High school Diploma/GED

  • Gastrointestinal Technical Specialist (GTS) preferred ; GTS or Advanced GI Technical Specialist (AGTS) is required at BSLMC

Minimum Experience:

  • Four (4) Years of patient care experience, of which one (1) year as an Endoscopy Tech

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be familiar with endoscopic computerized technology associated with endoscopy equipment and technical documentation.

  • Must be able to perform and adapt to fast paced and busy environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in the following environments: patient care unit areas (nursing unit, outpatient clinic), exposure to human/animal blood, body fluids, or tissues, exposure to harmful chemicals, and radiation

  • Ability to use a computer or keyboard continuously on a daily basis.

  • Ability to stand continuously on a daily basis.

  • Ability to walk, reach, life/carry up to 10 pounds, push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently, 34%-66% of the time.

  • Ability to sit, life/carry 10-50 pounds, and push/pull more than 50 pounds occasionally up to 33% of the time.

Position Responsibilities:
1.Perform tech 1 duties
2.Daily accountability of available scopes, equipment, and supplies for use, assist with scope repair and loaner process ( in the absence of the lead or tech supervisor or as designated by the unit leadership
3.Accurate record keeping and maintenance of scope cleaning and reprocessing steps and equipment disinfection/sterilization process. Able to assist and identify air scope repair and loaners process in the absence of the lead or tech supervisor, or as designated by the unit leadership.
4.Plays a supportive role in assessing needs of unit for changing par levels of equipment and accessories and relaying such information in a timely manner to the lead or tech supervisor and or unit leadership.
5.Assists with in servicing staff on all new equipment and accessories, as well as helping to in-service staff on other equipment and procedures as needed. Assist with annual competencies of endoscopy staff.
6.Assists with initiation and follow up of scope washer maintenance...i.e. solution checks, solution and filter changes.
7.Assists with troubleshooting of Pentax equipment, i.e. video processors and monitors.
8.Scope

Knowledge:
regarding image quality, color levels, air/water functioning, channel sizes and compatibility with accessories.
9.Is a resource for physicians and staff with the ProVation and epic system.
10. Serves a mentor or preceptor to new technical staff
11. Troubleshooting electrical issues/ contact Biomed as needed

Adequately and correctly collect and label patient specimen in an efficient and safe manner according to established procedures and regulatory requirements. 2. Answer incoming phone calls and assist callers with inquiries, complaints and/or issues in a professional manner. 3. Provide prompt, excellent customer service to all internal and external customers 4. Assist in the calling of critical and noncritical test results 5. Adequately and efficiently transport, receive, process and distribute blood and other specimen to the appropriate area of laboratory for testing according to established procedures. 6. Appropriately handles unacceptable specimen received into the laboratory. 7. Perform routine clerical duties and computer functions related to collection, labeling, receipt and processing of patient specimen. 8. Maintain a clean and well stocked work area (i.e. restocking of phlebotomy carts). 9. Demonstrate the ability to recognize and resolve problems and escalate as appropriate. 10.
