Operational Duties:

  • Demonstrates necessary practical, technical or specialized knowledge and skills required for the role of the GI/Endoscopy technician in accordance with facility policy and procedures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge related to maintenance, cleanliness, and sterilization/disinfection of instruments and equipment. Maintains a sanitary environment for the provision of patient care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of high disinfection and sterilization of endoscopy equipment. (Maintains daily log, testing for efficacy of disinfecting solution with each cycle, performs biological tests, test strips quality controls, and completes log, as per facility policies).

  • Proficient in the care, handling, and disinfection of all endoscopes and accessories.

  • Prepares the endoscopy unit adequately and ensures availability of necessary GI equipment and supplies. Cleans GI treatment rooms between procedures and prepares rooms for next case.

  • Utilizes good customer service while interacting with patient, family and physicians. Keeps patient and family informed on a timely basis.

  • Assists the physician with interventions as indicated (positioning, preparing specimens, GI tract tattooing, etc.)

  • Demonstrates appropriate aseptic techniques as indicated by interventions (hand hygiene, and equipment preparation).

  • Assists in the maintenance, care and labeling of specimens. Identifies specimen with surgeon and passes specimen to the circulating RN.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred.

Experience:

  • One year acute care experience; preferably in an ambulatory surgery center.

Certification/License:

  • Valid BCLS Certification upon employment*online certification not acceptable.

Duties include medical gas administration, aerosol therapy, obtaining and analyzing blood specimens, performing patient testing, operating and maintaining various types of respiratory and cardiopulmonary equipment, assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation, providing patient education, monitoring equipment and patient response to therapy. Additional responsibilities include completing patient documentation in the patient and departmental records, to include all computer based documentation. Cleaning equipment and maintaining safety and infection control practices. Accepting other job responsibilities as deemed reasonable by the Director/Supervisor or designee. In this position, the RCP will NOT be providing mechanical ventilation or maintaining artificial airways. The employee will provide care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older. Minimum Requirements: Education: Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy Program. Must maintain at minimum a "C" average.
