Experience: Physician clinic or surgery center experience preferred but not required.

We will train the right candidate in these operational duties:

  • Demonstrates necessary practical, technical or specialized knowledge and skills required for the role of the GI/Endoscopy technician in accordance with facility policy and procedures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge related to maintenance, cleanliness, and sterilization/disinfection of instruments and equipment. Maintains a sanitary environment for the provision of patient care.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of high disinfection and sterilization of endoscopy equipment. (Maintains daily log, testing for efficacy of disinfecting solution with each cycle, performs biological tests, test strips quality controls, and completes log, as per facility policies).

  • Proficient in the care, handling, and disinfection of all endoscopes and accessories.

  • Prepares the endoscopy unit adequately and ensures availability of necessary GI equipment and supplies. Cleans GI treatment rooms between procedures and prepares rooms for next case.

  • Utilizes good customer service while interacting with patient, family and physicians. Keeps patient and family informed on a timely basis.

  • Assists the physician with interventions as indicated (positioning, preparing specimens, GI tract tattooing, etc.)

  • Demonstrates appropriate aseptic techniques as indicated by interventions (hand hygiene, and equipment preparation).

  • Assists in the maintenance, care and labeling of specimens. Identifies specimen with surgeon and passes specimen to the circulating RN.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program preferred.

Certification/License:

  • Valid BCLS Certification upon employment*online certification not acceptable.

Responsibilities * Assists with patient transfers and communicates with patient utilizing high service standards/behaviors. * Communicates with the health care team; effective communication regarding room needs, necessary follow-up by intraoperative team. * Facilitates adequate stocking of emergency supply stock and specialty section stock to ensure accessibility for patient care needs. * Maintains high level of supply organization to ensure that inventory is appropriately managed and accessible to the health care team. * Participates in projects and performs other duties as assigned by the Surgical Support Services Supervisor and/or other member of the Perioperative leadership team. * Partners with anesthesia services to ensure practitioners have access to required supplies for patient care delivery. * Performs room and department decontamination as recommended by CDC, AORN, ASA, KUHA and manufacturer's guidelines. * Performs task related to pulling supplies and instruments to adequately and accurately prepare for cases; tasks include quality control mechanisms to ensure successful case pulls. * Provides resources to staff during surgical cases to ensure that the team has the tools and equipment to perform surgical duties with minimal unnecessary interruption. * Reviews and follows processes for acquiring, storing and handling surgical equipment in an organized, efficient manner according to division guidelines. * Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. * Note: These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities.
