Our Endoscopy lab is a fast paced unit with a high volume of patients seen each day. We do a wide variety of procedures in our department ranging from diagnostic colonoscopies to advanced endoscopic procedures utilizing up to date and advanced technologies.

The Specialty tech role would function as an anesthesia tech assisting is turnovers and efficiencies as well as an equipment tech, someone who troubleshoots and prepares equipment to help the staff focus on patient care. This position is new to this department and we anticipate increased efficiencies adding this role.

Job Summary

This position assists with prescribed endoscopic procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols. This position ensures optimal care/treatment to patient population.

Essential Functions

Assists with case preparation, pulls appropriate instruments and supplies. May assists with maintaining the accurate information on preference cards. Reviews case for procedural needs and ensures the correct diagnostic and therapeutic devices are available.

Assists in performing endoscopic procedures in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Anticipates and prepares for changing needs.

Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash.

Responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and storage of scopes and reusable devices. Ensures that unused supplies are returned appropriately.

Demonstrates knowledge of all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, assists with the proper set up of appropriate equipment and positioning devices/patients in procedures rooms. Assist with the cleaning/stocking of procedure rooms and carts.

Supports the operations of the department by assisting with clerical duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

BLS certification.

This position requires clinical knowledge normally associated with 1 - 2 years of previous experience in a health care setting. Must demonstrate effective organizational, communication and human relations skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Promotes patient safety by assuring safe functioning of Endo specialty equipment during procedures and ensuring appropriate supplies are available. Essential Functions Serves as a resource person in designated specialty to ensure coordination of necessary instruments and equipment. Maintains unit equipment. This includes, but is not limited to: setting up; cleaning; performing basic troubleshooting of equipment; performing safety checks on equipment and specialty carts as directed, calibrates and replaces soda lime. Monitors equipment for malfunctions, performs light maintenance or arranges for repairs. May complete room setup, assemble equipment, and maintain anesthesia specialty carts. Tracks and monitors availability of equipment and instruments for procedures in collaboration with the members of the Endo Team. Maintains adequate inventory of anesthesia and surgical supplies both in the Endo and anesthesia work areas. Assists with pulling supplies for cases, rotating inventory, and monitoring expiration dates. Under the direction of the RN circulator, assists with basic patient care as requested. Practices aseptic technique per competency. Performs functional tasks and utilizes equipment as delegated by a licensed professional. This may require additional specialized training provided by the department, consistent with demonstrated competency. Assists with transporting patients, including pre-procedure and immediate post-procedure patients to critical care unit. Participates in Endo room turnover. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. Current BLS certification. An understanding of inventory management tasks and the ability to work effectively with a computer based inventory management system.Requires strong communication (written and verbal) skills, time management, problem solving ability, customer service and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with specialty instruments and equipment is strongly preferred. Knowledge of patient related supplies, materials, and aseptic techniques are preferred. Previous experience in an acute care setting, preferably surgical services or specialty procedure area.
