Summary

  • Reconcile encumbrances on the general ledger; report outstanding purchase orders; encumber County contracts.

  • Provide a line of communication between the Auditor's Office and other County offices.

  • Responsible for the accuracy of all County budgets as they pertain to encumbrances.

  • Assist the Business Manager in determining budget requests for supplies, capital, outside services and equipment maintenance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1.Reconciles the purchase order encumbrance report

2.Maintains reconcile welfare encumbrances on the general ledger

3.Maintains County Contract file. Maintains contract encumbrance system

4.Reconciles contract payments and encumbrances to general ledger

5.Provides support and answers to department heads and elected officials

6.Investigates purchase orders encumbrance report for proper status, partial disencumbrance and errors and completion

7.Enters purchase orders manually that are rejected from electronic transfers

8.Works with EDP Auditor and Information Technology on programming requirements

9.Instructs accounts payable staff on proper procedures to disencumber



  1. Prepares necessary journal entries for financial statements

  2. Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the department as assigned or required


Minimum Requirements

NOTE:YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED.

TO APPLY, must have a Bachelor's degree or higher in Business;Accounting preferred.

TO APPLY, must have Two (2) full-time years of related work experience; prefer experience with spreadsheets and word processing.

CPA preferred.

Good interpersonal, organizational and office equipment utilization skills required.

Must be capable of meeting County and Departmental deadlines.

If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment

at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
