Job Summary:
This role will learn the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of an Emergency Medical Technician. While the EMT trainee is enrolled in classwork, they are responsible for transporting ambulatory and non-ambulatory persons who are discharged to home and/or other facilities. After program training is complete, they will do EMT level functions under supervision until licensure is obtained.
Brief Description:
Operate small to medium size motor vehicles for performing discharge and appointment transportation duties.
Interact professionally with other healthcare personnel, and with disabled, disadvantaged, sick, and injured persons
Complete daily vehicle inspection and equipment checklist. Clean interior and exterior of vehicles. Clean all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures.
During clinicals with oversight, perform patient care duties within the entire scope of practice for EMTs, including: assessment, airway management with simple adjuncts, oxygen administration, bleeding control, splinting, CPR, blood sugar checks.
May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents
Qualifications
EMT licensure by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.
Personal driver license; class F or higher for Missouri residents.
Chauffeur driver license; class E or higher for Missouri residents, within thirty (30) days as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.
This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
