Position Title: EMT-Paramedic II/ED Tech Department: Ambulance


Purpose:


Provides the practice and delivery of safe, effective, ethical and culturally competent emergency care to patients of all ages in emergency situations who require stabilization and/or resuscitation as a result of illness or injury.

Responsible for overseeing the daily operation when the Manager and/or Charge Medic are not available.

This includes support for management of human, fiscal, material and environmental resources in accordance with hospital guidelines, organization/EMS philosophies and in compliance with regulatory and professional standards. Key accountabilities include fostering interdisciplinary collaborative relationships; making decisions in patient care/triage; ensure smooth shift operations; facilitate a seamless transition for the next shift that includes exchange of essential information; active participation in quality monitoring and performance improvement activities; promote evidence-based practice through research utilization or conduct of practice research. Performs technical procedures according to GMC Ambulance protocols and function within their Scope of Practice in accordance with the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of EMS. # Report To: Director


Supervisory Responsibility:


Guidance: The job requires the provision of occasional guidance and training to others. The job does not have formal or official supervisory responsibilities.


Materials Responsibility:


Very Limited.

Work requires very limited responsibility for material resources.

Examples of resources could include personal work materials, supplies or equipment, or very small amounts of cash. The employee has a very limited or indirect amount of control over these resources.

Although human error might require the repair or replacement of materials, usually the cost of correcting these errors is minor.

The variety and volume of resources is also very limited. Problems associated with material resources are very uncomplicated.

Basic Life Support, ACLS # Training Preferred: Associates Degree; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP); Critical Care Paramedic (CCP); Emergency Vehicle Operators Course # Licensure/Registration: Licensed Paramedic in IA and IL (employees hired prior to 5/21/2017 have one year to obtain second state license); Valid Driver#s License.


Experience:


Less than 1 year experience required.

Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization.

Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature.

Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others.


Working Conditions:


There is routine exposure to highly adverse environmental conditions including physical hazards, health and safety risks, and otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.

Personal risks require safety equipment or precautions to be followed closely. The time the employee is exposed to these conditions exceed 70% of their work day.
