Emergency Medical Services Department

EMS Faculty/PROGRAM DIRECTOR

POSTING DATE: 5/06/2024

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Program Director is responsible for the oversight and direction of the EMS Department.

The Program Director fulfills the following keys roles:

  • Serve as the Southern Maine Community College EMS Program Director

  • Serve as the Program Director of the Southern Maine Community College Training Center (License Number: 00008) in accordance with the most current Maine EMS Training Center standards.

  • Serve as the Program Director of the Southern Maine Community College Paramedic Program (Program Number: 600443) in accordance with the most current standards as indicated by the Committee of Accreditation of the Educational Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP)

Additionally, the Program Director will be able to:

  • Maintain collateral communications among administrators, academic division(s), communities of interest, advisory committee, Medical Director, faculty, and students

  • Instruct students in course content and assigned subjects

  • Demonstrate EMS skills and assessments

  • Instruct students how to perform EMS skills from lesson plans and instructional guides

  • Demonstrate proficiency with effective methods for content delivery in a clinical and laboratory learning environment

  • Supervise adjunct instructors and lab assistants

  • Supervise peer-review sessions and laboratory sessions

  • Utilize learning management systems to track student progress and grades

  • Evaluate student competency utilizing program guidelines in the classroom and laboratory settings

  • Develop, implement, and assess the effectiveness of summative assessments, lesson plans, presentations, program guides, and curriculum related to EMS education

  • Demonstrate effective counseling and remediation of students

  • Maintain licenses, certifications, and current clinical practice knowledge base through life-long learning and continuing education

  • Attend training, meetings and committees as available

  • Perform other duties as directed by Southern Maine Community College and the Maine Community College System

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree

  • National Registry of EMTs Paramedic certificate

  • Maine EMS Paramedic license or equivalent

  • Maine EMS Instructor Coordinator

  • Paramedic License or equivalent
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS Provider

  • Maine Class C driver's license or equivalent

  • At least three (3) years active field experience as a paramedic provider

  • At least three (3) years active instructional experience as a college instructor or equivalent

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree

  • Experience with CAAHEP/CoAEMSP Accreditation

  • American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, and/or PALS Instructor

  • National Association of EMS Educators Instructor I & II course

  • National Association of EMTs AMLS and/or PHTLS Instructor/Provider

  • UMBC CCEMTP Certification, FP-C, CCP,

SALARY STARTING RANGE: Starting Salary Range with a Bachelor's Degree: $59,386.33 - $69,613 (Includes 9 month base pay, 30 day contract extension and program director stipend. Additional compensation is available if teaching a course overload - more than 12 credits, teaching non-credit courses, etc.)

Starting Salary Range with a Master's Degree: $59,386.33 - $73,426 (Includes 9 month base pay, 30 day contract extension and program director stipend. Additional compensation is available if teaching a course overload - more than 12 credits, teaching non-credit courses, etc.)
