Summary:
The EMR Application Analyst LIS (Laboratory Information Systems) demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that their attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant and the commitment of Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
This individual is expected to use their knowledge of clinical laboratories to integrate the LIS into current and future laboratory/hospital workflows and projects. More specifically, implement and maintain software applications in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and associated laboratory software applications based on input from the laboratory and other Covenant staff, physicians, vendors, and affiliate hospitals.
In addition to the duties discussed above, the EMR Application Analyst LIS is responsible for the following:
Responsibilities:
Appropriately represents Covenant HealthCare by promoting a positive image to the project team, departments, medical staff, leadership and outside constituents.
Keeps an objective focus in all interactions.
Works with Covenant departments, vendors, and affiliates to assure systems function effectively.
Interacts effectively with Information Technology team regarding equipment and application issues, requests for enhancements, and testing updates.
Monitor and maintain laboratory related EMR and support systems applications at Covenant and Affiliate hospital Laboratories.
Maintain and install system equipment and printers.
Perform database maintenance and programming functions in EMR and other laboratory support systems utilizing their knowledge of application software, PC & AIX operating systems, HL7 interfaces, laboratory instrument interfaces, and relational database systems.
Understands workflow(s) of area of responsibility and their interaction with other departments.
Works with system users to analyze needs and develop new functionality.
Utilizes appropriate methodologies (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio), email for communication (Lotus Notes), issue tracking (Footprints), and system documentation.
Understands regulatory requirements in relationship to the system.
Thoroughly reviews and tests system modifications/new releases before putting into production.
Coordinates software updates/changes with end users and other team members
Assist in evaluating replacement and new hardware needs for the IT Department.
Other duties as assigned.
Initiates appropriate change control procedures for all system modifications
Troubleshoots application issues or questions from end users
Troubleshoot printer and minor network issues.
Works effectively as both a team member and one on one
Works independently, seeks guidance as necessary
Understands the importance of critical deadlines, prioritizes issues and personal workload effectively and plans accordingly to accomplish goals.
Actively listens to questions/concerns of co-workers and other members of the organization.
May be asked to present at meetings as needed.
Utilize appropriate Project/Change Management system(s) in a timely manner and with sufficient detail to foster communications with IT and other Hospital/Affiliate departments.
Ensures all duties are performed in a courteous manner by effectively answering questions and/or concerns regarding the system.
Contributes to organization success targets for patient satisfaction and net operating margin.
Demonstrates commitment to the quality philosophy and values of Covenant by maintaining established policies and procedures; organizational objectives; continuous quality improvement; quality assessment and safety standards
Supports activities of Computer Operators/Help Desk staff and assists Managers of Information Technology with delegated administration duties.
Expected to develop training materials and train staff when necessary.
Carry a pager and participate in an on call rotation to provide 24x7 emergency support for the department.
While on call rotation, must have the ability to provide remote support if necessary.
The EMR Application Analyst will work out of the Covenant Houghton location but will periodically travel to affiliate hospitals and vendor training/user group meetings.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Preferred: Bachelors degree (in healthcare, IT or relevant degree).
or
Associates degree in Healthcare and Clinical Certification or Licensure or Associates degree in IT with relevant experience with vendor application.
or
5 years relevant IT experience with Vendor laboratory application
Must become and maintain Vendor certification in specified application within 9 months of attending first Vendor course.
Minimum 3 years clinical experience in acute care hospital / physician office setting or 3 years of hospital IT experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Must have a strong working knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, business operations, regulations, and workflows with an understanding of how they interrelate to other departments in the organization
Strong computing skills including a working knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, web browsing, issue tracking and email applications and/or a willingness to learn.
Demonstrate project management skills including the ability to lead meetings, prioritize, resolve conflicts, and maintain issue lists.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated capabilities in follow-up activities.
Must demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic attitude
Must be a team player with the ability to work independently as well as in small or large teams
Demonstrates the ability to resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
