Piper's Los Angeles office seeks an associate with 2-3 years' experience in
labor and employment litigation. This associate will have a strong knowledge of state and federal
employment laws,
including wage and hour laws, the California Labor Code, discrimination laws,
and practice before state and federal court and agencies. This associate
will also have experience in the defense of class and collective actions, as
well as PAGA claims. Experience in these areas will be further evidenced
by client counseling with the respect to employee discipline and discharge,
workplace policies, practices and compliance matters, as well as training and
drafting key employment documents.

associate will be handling litigation management, legal research, legal drafting, and other
litigation-related tasks for class action as well as single plaintiff cases, including but not limited to matters
involving alleged meal and rest period violations, failure to pay wages and/or
bonuses, off-the-clock work, misclassification, harassment, discrimination,
retaliation, breach of contract, and wrongful termination. The associate may also conduct employment due
diligence and advise on employment aspects of corporate transactions; draft and
negotiate employment, termination/severance, and related agreements; and advise
on reductions in force.
Other advice issues include restrictive covenants, employee mobility,
compensation practices, commission plans, and leave practices.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Handle a caseload of approximately 135 employment practices liability claims from initial notice to resolution across multiple jurisdictions. * Analyze and address coverage issues timely and accurately under multiple policy forms. * Conduct timely and effective investigations through effective use of internal and external resources that are in compliance with all corporate guidelines and protocols. * Effectively document all relevant events in a timely and efficient manner as case facts are developed. * Timely and accurately evaluate and manage indemnity and expense reserves throughout the life cycle of all files with appropriate documentation supporting any reserve changes. * Based on effective investigative efforts, all resolution and negotiation strategies will consider and pursue appropriate third parties/collateral sources. * Manage defense counsel through effective use of litigation management strategies, inclusive of developing a specific case agenda that directs accountability of counsel throughout the life cycle of all files. * Proactively manage a claim inventory and effectively negotiate cases to a resolution in compliance of corporate guidelines and protocols. * Present cases and regularly share expertise through the claim committee process. * Adhere to all statutory regulations and Unfair Claims Practices Acts. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS JD or Bachelor's degree or Master's degree or equivalent experience, with a slight preference to Risk Management or Business majors.
