Job Description

Market solutions is a newly built function in John Hancock, responsible for bringing major new solutions to market with speed, and then quickly scaling them to meet business goals.

The Employer Market Solution Owner is responsible for anticipating market needs and providing recommendations for business action in a key growth channel for John Hancock, Employer Markets.

This person will work with peers and leaders across multiple life insurance fields - including product management, marketing, distribution, underwriting, IT and operations - to ensure that all facets of John Hancock's Employer Market solutions meet the need of a highly competitive brokerage market. The Employer Market Solution Owner will be a subject matter expert (SME) for internal stakeholders and external distribution partners regarding any employer solution in market and any that are in development.

This person will:

  • Recommend business actions that result in achieving a bold multi-year growth plan, through a deep understanding of market dynamics, distributor needs, and John Hancock capabilities

  • Anticipate market opportunities by using market research, insights, and close relationships with key internal and external partners.

  • Collaborate with Divisional and National Account sales leaders, as well as Insurance Marketing leaders, to provide sales team with the vital tools to optimally communicate the differentiated value of our solutions.

  • Act as a subject matter authority for external distribution partners, offering mentorship and support as needed, and coordinating with other SMEs to ensure alignment.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Managers, Product Owners, Marketing, and Operations, to drive the success of the solutions.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes that may impact the market positioning of the solutions.

  • Collaborate with partners to develop and implement market success strategies for each solution, ensuring a common understanding of market opportunity, fit, and marketing and distribution strategies.

  • Provide regular reports on project status to stakeholders throughout the business, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and successes.

What we are looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience delivering results in a market-facing role within the life insurance brokerage industry

  • Experience in product management, product marketing, or business development highly desirable.

  • Proven understanding of market dynamics, customer needs, and competitive landscape within the financial services industry.

  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to anticipate market opportunities and provide actionable recommendations.

  • Effective prioritization and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.

  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.

  • Strong leadership capabilities, with the ability to get results and foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts

Salary range is expected to be between

$114,975.00 USD - $206,955.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
