Job Summary

The Employee Relations Specialist provides guidance to employees and managers to promote and support effective working relationships within the institution. Specifically, the incumbent will interface with employees at all levels pertaining to employee relations, performance management, and the advancement of employee engagement, inclusion and belonging. This includes addressing conflicts, resolving disputes, and ensuring that all employees are treated in accordance with College and System policies and procedures.

The core of this position requires a highly motivated, proactive, solution driven person who embraces the opportunity to support a culture of engagement, inclusion, service, creativity and inspiration.

Responsibilities

Respond to employee relations issues, and serve as the first point of contact on corrective action items, and initial investigations. Issue, review, retrieve and maintain appropriate documentation and supporting details for all levels of the corrective action process to ensure compliance with University System of Georgia (USG) and GGC policies.

Document and track information within the case management tool (LaborSoft); provide timely feedback to employee and/or manager on case status. Review involuntary terminations in accordance with the college¿s processes to ensure consistency and lawful practices

Provide guidance to employees and managers on campus environment concerns, policy interpretation and resource information. Provide coaching and consultation to managers in order to enhance their people and performance management skills

Assist managers with the provisional and annual performance review process.

Coordinates engagement initiatives, training programs and presentations; contacts and makes arrangements with speakers and presenters for departmental programming; researches, develops, promotes, and coordinates educational engagement programs.

Mobilizes internal resources, develop processes and practices, and cultivate relationships to support diversified engagement embedded across campus. Develops and implements stay interviews with the goal of enhancing employee retention strategies.

Partners with the Human Resources peers to review and develop insights and actionable recommendations and strategies to best influence a positive culture of that values diversity, inclusion, belonging and engagement.

Performs other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in HR, Business or related discipline

3-5 years of measurable success in a full scope Employee Relations Specialist role or HR Generalist role.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in higher education and/or government entity

Knowledge of a human resources management system or case management system, and/or other related business software programs and systems.

PHR preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient with general office-related duties, including the use of Microsoft Office Suite

Working knowledge and understanding of policy and procedures related to employment that may include complaints, grievances, performance management and evaluations, coaching, counselling, and progressive discipline.

Effective and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize objectives.

Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters.
