We're looking for an Employee Relations Lead who will help support the day-to-day needs of amazing employees on our Tech teams. This is not your typical Employee Relations role, you will be a steward of Pinterest's culture, leveraging insights from your work to identify trends and be empowered to create proactive solutions to address them.

What you'll do:

  • Be a trusted advisor to employees and managers providing coaching and support to help them deliver their best work every day

  • Keep your finger on the pulse of the organization, supporting employees through hardship, and influencing managers to enact changes that preserve what's unique about our culture while helping us evolve to support the needs of Pinners

  • Partner with a variety of stakeholders (HR Business Partners, Legal, Leadership, etc.) to provide counsel and facilitate prompt, fair, and effective resolution of workplace concerns to help deliver a positive employee experience

  • Analyze people experience trends and partner with internal stakeholders to develop proactive strategies, solutions, programs, and policies

  • Owns the exit process end-to-end for all voluntary terminations, including exit interviews

  • Effectively manage both proactive and reactive people experience cases from initial stages through resolution

  • Assist with People Experience projects and initiatives including, but not limited to, New Employee Orientation, general HR support work, and program/project management support

What we're looking for:

  • 5+ years of HR Generalist or Employee Relations experience

  • A bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to handle Employee Relations matters in an urgent and confidential manner

  • Ability to operate independently and demonstrate strong decision making. Knows when to escalate issues and seek appropriate support

  • Knowledge of employment laws and best practices to manage legal risk

Department Description The Labor and Employee Relations Unit has responsibility for providing advice and consultation to managers, supervisors and employees in the area of labor and employee relations, including matters related to: performance management; corrective action and or discipline; contract and policy interpretation and compliance; compliance with local, state and federal employment and labor laws; principles of sound personnel management; and the grievance and complaint resolution procedures. Job Summary This is a Limited Appointment position with an anticipated end date of June 2019. The Labor and Employee Representative leads local negotiations; conducts supervisory training; ensures that management interests are represented and employee rights are protected, and promotes proactive management practices to reduce grievances, unfair labor practice charges, charges of discrimination and employment-related litigation. Uses labor relations concepts and skills as a seasoned experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of labor/union issues, resolves complex issues. Normally receives little instruction on day-today work. General instructions may be provided on new assignments and initiatives. Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum four years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience * Possesses strong analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills * Knowledgeable regarding labor/employment law and the principles and techniques of labor negotiations * Able to apply effective bargaining strategies in order to ensure successful outcome for all parties * Has knowledge of applicable state and federal laws and court decisions regarding employment related matters * Demonstrates skills necessary to bargain and represent the organization's interests effectively * Position may require specialized knowledge within labor relations field * Demonstrated ability to handle very difficult or volatile situations/individuals effectively * The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations Preferred Qualifications * Demonstrates thorough knowledge of organizational policies and procedures * In-depth knowledge of the principles of advocacy in order to represent the organization in various dispute forums * Public Sector, higher education academic experience Licensure/Certification * N/A Living Pride Standards Service Excellence * Demonstrates service excellence by following the Everyday PRIDE Guide with the UCSF Medical Center standards and expectations for communication and behavior.
