The George Mason University Office of Human Resources and Payroll invites current George Mason University applicants for an internal search for an Employee Relations Assistant position. The Employee Relations Assistant is a growth opportunity to gain experience in, and exposure to, the field of employee relations. This position will:

  • The Employee Relations Assistant will provide a broad-range of administrative and technical support to the Employee Relations team; and ensuring the confidentiality, efficiency and accuracy of employee and departmental information;

  • The position will serve as the initial point of contact, performing case intakes with all levels of employees in a diverse academic environment;

  • The incumbent will also compose and prepare correspondence, maintain calendars for the Employee Relations team, coordinate meetings, maintain files/records, and follow up on inquiries:

  • The position will create and maintain spreadsheets, databases and reports, as well as prepare and deliver various types of presentations; and

  • Dependent on experience, the incumbent may be involved with the delivery of conflict resolution and coaching efforts; as well as consulting on disciplinary, performance evaluation, and grievance processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must be an independent, assertive self-starter and have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality customer service;

  • Candidates must be able to independently manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, demonstrate excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, remain calm even in an emotionally charged environment, and handle sensitive information in a professional and confidential manner; and

  • Experience with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong writing skills

  • Bachelor's degree; and

  • Experience working in an employee relations or human resources environment is further preferred.

Tasks and responsibilities in this role include, but are not limited to the following: * Partners in providing guidance, support and counsel to employees and management on defined employee relations issues, and escalates as appropriate * Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues * Facilitates company approved employee training sessions and guidance meetings * Conducts thorough investigations of employee complaints and disputes, documents findings, and recommends disciplinary action and/or appropriate resolution * Completes basic internal audits of employee relations issues such as employee turnover, hiring, transfer and promotion practices, and exit interviews to identify trends or situations that may require training, counseling, or other action * Collaborates with HR leadership to facilitate activities to positively enhance the GDIT employee experience, and contribute to proactively addressing ER issues before they occur * Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal policies and external regulations and laws, bringing all compliance issues to the attention of management. Education: Bachelors Degree in a related business discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training or work experience. Qualifications: 2-5 years of related employee relations experience.
