Expeditors, a leader in global logistics, is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with a willingness to support the Employee Relations department in administrative filing and transition to a paperless electronic system. The position is a great opportunity to gain experience with and exposure to an Employee Relations department that supports over 5,500 U.S. employees. The position will be responsible for day-to day filing as well as completing a large-scale project of converting the department's existing paper files to an electronic system. A successful candidate will be comfortable with administrative tasks, working in a team environment, and have superior attention to detail.

  • Benefits administration tasks including eligibility, enrollment, and claims processing

  • Benefits compliance tasks including sending COBRA paperwork to eligible employees and 401(k) auditing

  • Distributing and managing access for the commuter benefits program

  • File maintenance within company recordkeeping guidelines

  • Reviewing and organizing employees' personnel, benefits, and medical files

  • Scanning employee files into electronic filing system

  • Identifying and categorizing scanned documents

  • Auditing scanned documents to ensure accuracy

This person will be part of a team led by the Employee and Labor Relations Manager and will play a vital role in the culture and employee experience at SPU. Job Responsibilities:The Employee and Labor Relations Advisor is responsible for fostering partnerships with all levels of employees, management and business partners to provide advice, consulting, and mentoring guidance regarding employee and labor relation processes, procedures and best practices as they relate to employee engagement, recognition, training, performance, misconduct, allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, labor practices and EEO matters. Ideal candidates will have experience with a complex, diverse workforce, a strong desire to work with both front-line employees and management, and experience with public sector organizational practices and labor unions. Examples of key responsibilities of this position include the following: * Meet with employees in person to assess their concerns and complaints, and with managers regarding employee misconduct and performance * Investigate, or assist in management fact finding or investigations regarding allegations of misconduct, discrimination, harassment, and other matters as necessary, and prepare investigation reports when appropriate. Conduct debriefing sessions with employees and management * Advise all levels of SPU employees and managers regarding personnel issues and/or refer issues to appropriate HR management or professional staff for assistance, which may include interpretation/implementation of City Personnel Rules, Department Guidelines, and Collective Bargaining Agreements. * Research and develop discipline comparisons and recommendations * Contribute to ER/LR data reporting tracking and analysis * Contribute to SPU's performance management and performance appraisal program by guiding leaders on evaluating, memorializing, and communicating about employee performance * Plan, develop, and prepare materials for labor/management initiatives, collective bargaining negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations * Manage special projects, such as the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) compliance program, Stay and Exit interview processing, and other human resources functions as assigned. * Support and work to promote Race and Social Justice Initiatives Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Public Administration or related field. Experience: At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in performing employee and/or labor relations work in a comparable organization including conducting or providing oversight for investigations to include EEO investigations. Other required skills include the ability to negotiate, counsel, manage conflict, facilitate communications, and influence; work effectively in a large, complex multicultural and diverse organization; exercise independent, sound judgment and initiative within established guidelines when recommending a course of action; prepare clear, concise, accurate and persuasive reports, correspondence, analytical studies and other written materials; possess active listening skills; and be proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Certification/License: Washington State Driver License is required. SPU operates facilities throughout Seattle and King County. Travel to remote work sites is required on an as-needed basis. Additional Information:Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of and relevant experience in employment law related matters, and experience in providing analysis regarding discrimination, harassment and retaliation in the workplace is preferred; as is experience working with labor unions/contracts and demonstrated experience in a leadership role in a complex unionized environment.
