  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills. Effectively communicates and collaborates with all layers of management and employee groups in diverse settings.

  • Updates guidelines, process and procedures documentation to all employee programs, events and activities.

  • Maintains employee inquiries within Service Now, responds to employee concerns in a timely and considerate manner, writes scripts and conducts training to aid the MyHR service team, and escalates trends to leadership.

  • Designs, manages and improves and the Human Recourses NMI intranet webpages to effectively communicate with the workforce.

  • Acts as a technical and informational resource for the department running reports and applying rigorous analytical skills in support of improvement projects, such as the new system-wide Apparel Program.

  • Effectively communicates and builds data process solutions in partnership with HRIS and vendor IT teams.

  • Assists with the development and monitoring of capital, departmental and fund budgets; identifying variances and reporting them to manager. This includes creating purchase orders and processing invoices or check requests for payment.

  • Develops and builds positive relationships with external vendors.

  • Schedules and coordinates employee events and activities across the healthcare system communicating with senior leadership to ensure alignment. This includes room scheduling, signage, catering, equipment, preparation and distribution of notifications such as invitations, FAQ's or scripts.

  • Possesses strong attention to detail and superior organizational skills in order to track progress, monitor timelines and provide administrative support for department initiatives.

  • Adapts behaviors and work methods in response to new information, changing conditions, customer needs, and unexpected outcomes.

  • Builds trust with customers and team members.

  • Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills, initiative, integrity, and commitment to excellence and team building.

  • Identifies key issues, trends and potential solutions to manager.

Employee Recognition Programs

  • Creatively develops processes and enhancements to NM employee milestone initiatives (includes service anniversaries, annual gifts, retirement acknowledgements and employee tributes)

  • Owns reporting and optimization of employee data within the milestone scope

  • Coordinates the logistics of milestone gift execution including sourcing, acquisition, messaging and fulfillment of items

  • Builds employee programs that foster positive engagement and a culture of appreciation

  • Effectively communicates updates to leadership and employees by leveraging internal platform

  • Develops and implements key metrics to measure process performance and identifies opportunities in assigned project

  • Professionally represents Northwestern Medicine by attending or hosting appropriate external and internal events related to employee engagement




  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 3-5 years business experience

  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel

  • Experience in Purchase Order requisitions and invoice processing

  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated ability to serve many customers and manage multiple projects and events at the same

  • Effective time management and customer service skills

  • Project management knowledge and experience

  • Strong initiative and attention to detail

  • Thinks creatively and works as a collaborative team member


  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft and web-page content management

Here, this leader will manage all aspects of our Magnet program and ensure the hospital and our clinical staff are performing at the highest level of patient care. You will craft programs and define strategies to ensure our growing healthcare organization remains a designated Magnet hospital system. The Director of Nursing Programs partners closely with the CNO and Patient Care Services executive leadership to lead and foster strategic nursing-related programs and ensure nursing quality across UChicago Medicine. The position includes responsibility for the coordination and ensuring the execution of all aspects of the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet program process and ensuring readiness for application for Magnet designation and re-designation. The Director of Nursing Programs serves as the consultative Subject Matter Expert about Magnet for all clinical and support departments, nursing, physicians, and administration and also is designated as the Magnet Program Director. The Director of Nursing Programs will drive the continued improvement in nursing practice model adherence and collaborate with the CNO and Patient Care Services executive team to improve the nurse employee satisfaction as measured by engagement scores across all nursing functional areas. They will credibly inspire the engagement of nurses through compelling messages, programs, and development opportunities to achieve a top-of-license nursing practice and mission-driven nursing culture at UChicago Medicine. Director of Nursing Programs Job Functions: * Magnet Program: Provides a systematic approach to the Magnet project management, collects and compiles all supporting documentation, uses in depth assessment and analysis to determine organizational readiness for Magnet application process, works closely with the CNO and executive leadership to close any identified gaps in readiness and improve systems/processes to assure compliance with Magnet designation criteria, works with nursing leadership to identify necessary resources to help ensure successful Magnet designation, and uses outside resources, networking, best practices and current evidence to develop integrated organizational interventions to aid in Magnet designation/re-designation. Plans and executes Magnet Steering Committee meetings agendas, work plans and communication process. Develops policies and research relative to maintenance of Magnet status and coordinates submission of abstracts for Magnet conferences and prize awards. Coordinates and organizes all Magnet related events, recognitions, and communications in conjunction with Marketing/Communication and other leaders. * Nursing Programs and Culture: Partners with nursing leadership, CNPPR team, and HR to lead creation, deployment, and consistent, sustained adoption of enterprise level programs to support nursing engagement, professional practice, and mission-driven culture. Identifies gaps between current state nursing culture and practice and desired future state and develops strategic plans and tactical actions that engages and strengthen the nursing workforce, preparing UCMC Nursing to meet its future long-term goals. Establishes and maintains a collaborative relationship with nursing colleagues and leadership across UCMC, demonstrating effective use of communication skills to influence participation and results. Proactively updates nursing leadership on plans, seeking input and buy-in as needed to ensure alignment and successful program deployment and adoption. Performs ongoing evaluation of employee satisfaction and engagement focusing on employee communication, motivation and engagement enhancement activities and practices. Involved in collaboratively leading other nurse related programs as assigned. * Nursing Strategic Initiatives: Partner with key stakeholders and leaders responsible for Shared Governance, Employee Engagement, Nursing Quality, and Patient Satisfaction to ensure the organization achieves and maintains requirements for Magnet designation and re-designation. Collaborate to identify gaps and effectively communicate gaps and requirements to CNO and executive leadership. * Professional Development: Develops activities to enhance the University of Chicago Medicine's image as a leader in Family Centered Care. Determines own professional needs through ongoing self-assessment and evaluation of total role performance and assumes responsibility for meeting those needs and maintains skill in clinical/professional specialty area. Director of Nursing Programs Job Qualifications: * Must hold a bachelor's degree in Nursing; an MSN or equivalent degree in a related field is required * Must hold a minimum of three years of progressive leadership experience * Must have a minimum of five years of clinical experience in an academic medical center; experience in a magnet-designated organization is preferred * Will need to be a credible expert about the medical center's nursing professional practice with demonstrated experience in order to guide organizational change toward consistently living out our nursing professional practice model * Hands on experience with program management and deployment is required; Lean methodology experience is preferred * Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills with audiences across organizational levels * Must hold a current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois or be eligible to obtain licensure prior to start Organizational Overview: Located in Historic Hyde Park, UChicago Medicine is a not-for-profit integrated and academic health system of hospital and physician services, providing world class care since 1927.
