Northrop Grumman's Space Sector Communications team seeks a skilled writer who is confident in being a communications advisor, thrives on the challenge of understanding and translating complex topics for a wide range of audiences, and enjoys storytelling and narrative development. This position reports to the Communications Strategy and Operations Manager for Northrop Grumman's Space Sector, and is located in McLean VA.

In this job, you'll:

  • Develop messaging and materials, across a variety of channels, to support the creation and evolution of the Space Sector's narrative and storytelling efforts.

  • Write compelling long- and -short-form content for articles, white papers, executive thought leadership, strategic business narratives, press releases and social channels.

  • Proofread and edit copy for spelling, grammar, accuracy, and clarity.

  • Conceptualize and produce a diverse array of material about our sector priorities, technologies, and business capabilities. Content will range from articles and videos, to interviews, talking points, presentations and photo/caption features.

  • Serve as the lead for the sector's connected storytelling operations:

  • Support development of the sector's communications strategy and business alignment.

  • Advise and consult on sector integrated communications plans and aid in workstreams for narrative-related and written tactics.

  • Oversee priority focus area communications plans to ensure timely updates and regularly reviewed and tailored narrative messaging aligned to each priority area.

  • Plan and coordinate business acumen learning sessions for the Space business communicators in partnership with program communicators and functional leads.

  • Measure impact of communications activities and contribute to discussions about strategic engagement of Sector leadership.

  • Ensure all communications plans and tactics are consistent with the company's strategic vision and reflect the Northrop Grumman brand.

  • Work with other Communications personnel across the sector and corporation, including to adopt and share best practices and new approaches.

  • Support maintenance of internal communications tools, including trackers, content repositories and more.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing or a related field with 3+ years of experience in a Communications capacity - OR - a Master's degree with 1+ years of experience as outlined above.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills, strong judgement, problem solving and organizational skills, and superb attention to detail:

  • Strong writing and editing skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with professionals demonstrating tact and poise.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential materials appropriately.

  • Good organizational skills and ability to work with minimal direction in a changing environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with accuracy and composure.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook).

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance. US Citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience in speech writing and with executive communications.

  • Possess a high level of interpersonal skills and a "can-do" attitude.

  • Some experience in Tableau, Salesforce and Nitro PDF.

  • Some experience developing strategies, KPIs and objectives.

  • Some experience in data management and business analytics.

  • Initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and high motivation for excellence.

  • Strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment.

Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
