1.0 Purpose:

Monitor operation of five primary dry scrubber systems and take corrective action to keep processes under control.

2.0 Scope:

Emission control requires collection and reporting of data, interpretation, and prompt response to abnormal data including trouble-shooting work on material transport ventilation systems and baghouses, and performing specified routine maintenance work. Provide routine back-up monitoring and trouble shooting work on all the Plant Dust Collector Systems.

Perform work needed to support all areas of Environmental Department responsibility including Water/Wastewater treatment, Emission/Ambient Monitoring, and Chemical/Waste Management. Must maintain communications (written and verbal including use of radio) with Environmental Supervision and Maintenance and Production personnel. Required utilization of various PC software.

This position reports to the Air Quality Supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Eleventh grade reading, math, computive and cognitive thinking ability.

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

Skills:

Must be a technically and/or mechanically oriented person. Must have good reading and writing skills and be able to handle data with accuracy.

Must have a valid Drivers License and be able to operate a forklift. Must be capable of working independently with only limited supervision. Must possess good human relations skills in order to conduct effective communications with personnel in all areas of the plant.

Physical Capabilities:

Must be in good physical shape capable of routinely climbing 915 feet of stairs and ladders per day (sometimes 1830 feet).

Must be physically and psychologically capable of working in confined spaces (in which crawling is required) and from heights > 100 ft.

Must be physically capable of being medically certified for wearing a respirator, obtaining proper seal and functioning in full Class "A" protection as specified by OSHA. Must have good or corrected color vision and hearing. Must be able to speak clearly.

Good motor skills required for operation of power hand tools and delicate equipment calibration/adjustments.

Must be able to withstand adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and work rotating shifts.

Potential Exposures:

Fluoride (gaseous and particulate), nuisance dust, Coal Tar Pitch Volatiles, Chlorine, and all other plant chemicals, noise and heat.

JOB OBJECTIVES:

Operate Emission Control systems according to "Air Quality" Manual.

Accurately interpret observations and data to implement timely system adjustments.

Communicate and record data and observations to operating personnel via logbook and PC in scheduled time frame.

Notify maintenance and supervisor of maintenance needs to keep equipment running properly. Actively updates maintenance list and participates in planning meetings as needed. Reviews maintenance schedules regularly and follow-up to insure corrective action has been taken in a timely manner.

Perform needed housekeeping. Maintains specified dry scrubber courtyard, control room, blower room and other environmental areas as needed to insure a safe and productive workplace.

Perform emission sampling as assigned according to approved procedures, Observe process operations and irregular conditions during sampling and promptly communicate any problems to responsible personnel. Follow-up to insure corrective action has been taken.

Provide secondary support for routine and/or emergency bag maintenance operations.

Inspect and provide maintenance to secondary dust collection systems as needed. Completes routine inspections in given time frames.

Provide secondary support to Stormwater and Wastewater Operations.

Write reports and procedures within assigned time frames, including trip reports, status reports and portions of the period report as assigned.

Maintain organization of environmental supplies and equipment.

Incorporate use of computer and related software into daily routine.

Fulfill vacation coverage requirements as assigned.

Effectively perform as supervisor fill-in on a rotating basis with other technicians.

Assist ongoing further development of the "Air Quality" Manual through writing procedures, creating control charts and drawings, and researching data needs as directed by supervision and taking initiative.

Insure productive weekly meetings with Air Quality Supervisor by maintaining the defined system of objectives and a current work backlog for prioritization in accordance to overall needs.

Work effectively with other technicians, and provide support to as needed for projects and program development.

Exhibit all facets of Human Relations Skills, to include giving praise, constructive criticism, listening and working effectively with others.

Support plant WasteMin Program through active participation and take initiative in Wastestream assessment, reduction and reporting. Fulfill specific program needs of the department as assigned.

Observe and abide by company policies, practices and rules including compliance with Environmental Quality Management.

Support plant's Safety Awareness Facilitated by Employees (SAFE) Program through active participation in Job Safety Analysis, observing fellow workers and maintaining safe work methods & behaviors.

6.0 Environmental, Health & Safety:

The work performed by this position is a critical part of Mt Holly's Environmental Management System. The records generated by this position are compliance records subject to state and federal governmental agency review.

Therefore, all documentation must be complete, legible and accurate. Any falsification of records by an employee working in this position, places the employee subject to disciplinary action.
