The EMG Technologist will prepare patients for and conduct standard electromyographic tests which measure muscle response and nerve conduction; collect information pertinent to the interpretation of the test; and to assist in the maintenance of equipment. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Performs specific job responsibilities including, but not limited to the following:
Explain test procedures and instruct patients on proper positioning during the test .
Apply suitable electrodes on predetermined measured positions on the patient and check their performance
Calibrate and adjust the EMG apparatus
Maintain in a clean operating condition and make minor maintenance adjustments
Complete and forward charge slips for billing purposes
May maintain laboratory inpatient schedules and assign work in conjunction with physician electomyographer
May participate in the training of EMG technical staff and residents regarding nerve conduction studies
Inventory and requisition laboratory supplies
Maintain laboratory equipment in working order
Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas

Minimum Qualifications

Education: An Associate's degree in health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary; a Bachelor's degree is desirable.

Experience: Considerable experience with the methods, equipment and materials used in electromyography is necessary.

We are looking for a full time Medical Technologist supervisor in our Roanoke, VA office to work in our Immunohematology Reference Lab (IRL) performing specialized testing to serve our local hospital clients. As a Blood Bank Supervisor you will be responsible for the daily operations in the reference laboratory; including supervising staff performing basic and advanced test procedures and interpreting complex test results to determine donor/recipient compatibility. Advise technologists in resolving compatibility problems, providing reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion facilities and in supplying antigen-negative units to transfusion recipients. Provide complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. Demonstrate excellent customer service, interpersonal skills and positive professional image. Assure compliance with safety policies and procedures in the work area. Assume responsibility for the laboratories compliance with standard operating procedures and interpretation of test results in accordance with the applicable regulatory requirements. Perform all duties in compliance with regulatory requirements. Other responsibilities include: * Consulting and communicating with the staff of hospitals and transfusion facilities to resolve serological problems and supply antigen-negative or special units to transfusion recipients. * Responsibility for the supervision of the laboratory staff including, but not limited to, hiring, training, coaching, evaluating and disciplining to ensure a well-qualified team and to enhance operational success. In conjunction with the Medical Director, provide guidance to ensure appropriate patient care. * Assure quality and adequacy of testing, reference and consultation services are maintained. * Perform, review and approve quality control on products, reagents, and equipment and validations. Assure required records and files are maintained. * Know and oversee compliance of applicable American Red Cross Blood Services (ARCBS) directives, federal, state and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations pertaining to blood banking and safety. Adhere to quality assurance procedures and good manufacturing practices. * May perform or assist in writing, organizing and maintaining departmental procedure manual. Perform duties associated with document development, implementation, and management. * May manage budgetary information for the department and provide approval for reagent and supply purchases. * Perform record review, training and competency assessments. Participate in concern and problem management. Provide internal and external education. Participate in external and internal inspections/audits and corrective actions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a biological or related field and SBB (ASCP)/equivalent required. Three years of high complexity blood bank testing experience required, including 1 year of management experience or training. Effective communication/interpersonal skill and excellent technical skills required.
