The Emerging Systems Engineering Technologies Department is charged with identifying, developing and applying new technologies that can address the Government's most challenging Systems Engineering problems.

This is an opportunity for early career engineers who are highly motivated, innovative and proactive. This position provides challenging opportunities to apply and expand one's systems architecture, modeling, and tradespace analysis skills. Specific areas of interest include Model Based Engineering (MBSE, MDA, MDD, MDE), Systems of Systems, architecture modeling, analysis of complex systems, and decision support.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing prototypes using Java, Python and related programming languages.

  • Modeling architectures of complex systems using standards-based languages (ex. SysML / UML)

  • Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using qualitative and quantitative techniques

  • Articulating major uncertainties associated with systems architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the uncertainties

  • Supporting requirements management, interface management and architecture change management processes

  • Translating analysis results into actionable recommendations for the US Government agencies

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field
  • 2 + years of professional experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to possess and maintain a DoD clearance

  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word

  • Must have demonstrated proficiency and strength in verbal, written, PC, presentation, and communications skills

  • Expertise in object oriented programming to include: Java (required), Python, C#, C++, and C

  • Embedded system experience

  • Familiarity with SysML and UML modeling tools

  • Project-based team work experience

  • Ingenuity for applying a set of technical skills across multiple subject matter domains such as healthcare and defense

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in technical field of study

  • Knowledge of systems architecture and systems design and development. Understanding of modern SE methods.

  • Experience with multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation (physics-level, engineering-level and/or operational-level).

  • Proficiency in one or more of the programming languages for quantitative analyses (ex. MATLAB, Mathematica, R).

  • Knowledge of Analysis of Alternatives, Verification and Validation, Design of Experiments and data analytics.

Develop and enhance automated tests and frameworks. Influence software design to maximize testability and automation potential. Work side-by-side with developers and functional testers to create test specifications from user stories/requirements and transform selected tests into an automated test suite. Triage defects and effectively communicate parameters to developers for rapid reproduction and fix. Develop test plan and procedures for testing new products and sustaining efforts. Install/setup of test environment. Prioritize automation and manual efforts. Use strong communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively communicate results and issues to developers, managers and program through direct communication, use of bug tracking system, and triage abilities. Provide mentorship and coaching to test execution resources for running tests (manual and automated) and collecting results. Promote and implement automation capabilities throughout the entire software development lifecycle including, functional, performance, scale and stress. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree employer will accept 3 years of post-secondary studies in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 1 year of experience in software development. Must have 5 years of professional experience promoting and implementing automation capabilities throughout the entire software development lifecycle (including, functional, performance, scale and stress). Must also have the following: 3 years of professional experience developing Application Program Interface ("API") automation tests and test frameworks; 2 years of professional experience using programming languages (including Java, Python, and C/C++); 2 years professional experience working with embedded firmware and conducting debugging/triage; 2 years of professional experience performing software testing and test automation using bug tracking tools, test case management systems and build methodologies; 2 years of professional experience applying User Interface (UI) technologies (including HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS); 2 years of professional experience conducting system and network management on Windows and Linux operating systems; 1 year of professional experience with sensors and videos as applied to robotics; 1 year of professional experience working with Bluetooth and the Transmission Control Protocol and the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP); 1 year of professional experience utilizing test management systems (including JIRA, Bugzilla, Mantis, Test Manager, Insights or Axosoft) to plan and execute software testing activities; 1 year of experience performing software build and delivery process using Jenkins; 1 year of experience conducting mobile app testing (including Android and iOS).
