Full-Time Public Safety Telecommunicator/First Responder
Starting Salary: $23.0670/hr ($47,979.36 annually)
Shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shift
Metcom 9-1-1 Dispatch Center is a multi-jurisdictional emergency communications center located in Bloomington, IL serving the McLean County Sheriff’s Department, Town of Normal Police and Fire, along with multiple rural police and fire agencies.  
General Overview:
The primary function of a Telecommunicator (TC) is to answer emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance and information. Metcom Telecommunicators must work varying hours, including night, weekend and/or holiday shifts in a 24-hour operational setting. The existing 40-hour work week is structured around an 8-hour shift, which is determined by coverage requirements, and is accompanied by two combined days off. Shifts begin at 7:00a.m., 3:00p.m., and 11:00p.m.and are determined through bi-annual shift bidding based on seniority.
Essential Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Relays information to emergency response personnel, perform emergency medical dispatch, crisis intervention services, and maintains contact with callers until responders arrive.
Must evaluate and process requests for emergency and non-emergency service in a fast, courteous, and efficient manner using computers, multi-line telephone, radio, or 911 systems.
Determine and assign the level of priority of the call, enter data into a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) operating system, scan responder status, and record details about the call.
Must interpret, analyze, and anticipate the caller’s situation to resolve problems, provide information, identify the appropriate number and type of equipment or apparatus to dispatch as needed, or refer callers to other agencies.
Enters and modifies information into local, state, and national computer databases.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED
Applicants must be able to accurately type at least 40 wpm
Applicants must pass a background investigation, pre-employment drug screening, and hearing test
Obtain CPR, Emergency Medical (EMD), and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) certifications within six months of employment and maintain certifications
Obtain LEADS Certification within three months of employment and maintain certification
Ability to effectively receive, present and respond to information and questions from supervisors, public safety agencies, other governmental agencies, and the public
Ability to handle multiple, complex tasks and complete them in a timely and accurate manner
