Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Management Coordinator, the Emergency Services Responder provides on-call support to the response and recovery efforts of the UVA Health System Center for Emergency Management. Serves as an active member of the department's Emergency Response Team (ERT); responds during emergency situations as required; and supports the functions of the Emergency Response Team in a state of positive preparedness, readiness, and response capabilities through didactic and practical training exercises as well as team meetings, drills, and exercises.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responds to decontamination alerts, as available.
Responds to requests for emergency assistance, as available.
Attends ERT meetings and training; participates in drills and exercises as scheduled.
Assists with stores and maintenance of decontamination and evacuation equipment.
Effectively functions within Emergency Response Team organizational structure.
Assists with disaster preparedness and response initiatives as scheduled.
In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Position Compensation Range: $25.00 - $25.00 Hourly
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Experience in emergency management, emergency or disaster response, emergency medical services, decontamination, use of PPE (PAPR or SCBA), firefighting, and/or HAZAMT preferred.
License/Certification: None required. Certification in emergency management, emergency or disaster response, emergency medical services, decontamination response, use of PPE (PAPR or SCBA), firefighting, and/or HAZAMT preferred.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently walking and bending/stooping and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
