WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

To provide support for the Anchorage Judicial Services Unit of the Department of Public Safety by dispatching Court Service Officers via radio, to calls for service while answering routine and emergency phone calls and providing the day-to-day support needs of the Control Room.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:

The Anchorage Judicial Services Unit is located in the basement of the Nesbett Courthouse in downtown Anchorage, with free parking in a secure garage. The daily work environment consists of a friendly team of like-minded civilian and commissioned staff dedicated to the Alaska State Trooper's mission.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

The Anchorage Judicial Services Unit is looking for an individual who is a self-starter and works well individually, as well as a team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas of knowledge, skill, and abilities:

  • Intermediate Knowledge of computer-based workstations including the Microsoft Office suite of products including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Possesses a positive attitude and has experience establishing productive working relationships with team members.

  • Applicants with the ability to produce consistently high-quality work in an environment with numerous interruptions and rapidly shifting priorities.

  • Applicants with the ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.

  • Applicants with exceptional critical thinking skills.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills that clearly and concisely communicate the message to be conveyed to a broad spectrum of audiences.

  • Ability to organize, set priorities, plan, and direct workflow and procedures for assigning work for Court Services Officers.

  • Experience comprehending and interpreting written material and applying rules and instructions.

Two years of work experience. This experience must include six months of experience that entails clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

AND

The ability to type at a net speed of 30 words per minute with no more than three errors per minute.

OR

Any combination of education from an accredited college (three semester hours or four quarter hours equal one month of experience), vocational education (150 hours equal one month of experience), and/or work experience may substitute for up to 18 months of non-specific work experience.

Special Note:

Specific positions in this job class may require incumbents to be Emergency Medical Certified, Emergency Police Certified, or Emergency Fire Dispatch Certified.

Shift work may be required.

A background investigation will be required upon initial employment.

This job class requires individuals to multitask and maintain emotional control and composure to work effectively during emergencies, crisis situations, and/or extremely stressful conditions.COVER LETTER

APSIN

Please be aware - this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.

BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check.  Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
