We are looking for an Emergency Services Advisor- Underground to assist with managing, training, and promoting the emergency response teams at the Kennecott Bingham Canyon Mine Underground. This role will report directly to and work with the Senior Emergency Services Advisor and play a strong role in the development and direction of Emergency Response for Kennecott underground.

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance to Rio Tinto HSE standards and Rio Tinto Underground Emergency Management Group Procedure.

  • Coordinating and training the emergency response teams (ERT) on site to a competent and capable standard in all hazard-based responses including medical, fire, hazmat, confined space rescue and working at heights rescue specifically in the underground mining environment.

  • Ensuring compliance with MSHA regulations regarding Underground Mine Rescue Teams including, availability, mine rescue station, equipment and maintenance, physical requirements for mine rescue team, training for mine rescue teams, and mine emergency notification plan.

  • Assisting with development and maintenance of Business Resilience Plans, Emergency Response Plans, Incident Action Plans, Rescue Plans, etc.

  • Ensuring all ERT equipment is maintained, serviceable and ready for use including Emergency Response Station, firefighting equipment, foam machines, BG4 CCBA units, underground ambulance and response vehicles, response trailer, lifting bags, gas detection equipment, rope rescue and confined space rescue equipment, etc.

  • Identifying, resourcing, and obtaining additional emergency response equipment as needed.

  • Coordinating annual training of employees in Incident Command, CPR/ AED, first aid, plant evacuation procedures and fire extinguisher use.

  • Completion of emergency response drills in the underground, including reporting and completion of improvement actions.

  • Assist with scheduling and conducting evacuation exercises.

  • Participating in multiple annual audits throughout the year.

  • Offer support and direction during emergency response incidents at Kennecott Underground.

  • Liaise with external responding agencies and provide them with periodic familiarization training.

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Extensive experience in Underground Mining and Safety.

  • Extensive experience in Underground Emergency Response.

  • Extensive instructor experience

  • MSHA 40hr certification.

  • MSHA Blue Card holder with designations in underground and mine rescue.

  • BLS Provider CPR/ AED and First Aid certifications.

  • Competent in computer use and the MS office suite

  • A team-oriented management style in a matrix organization.

  • An attitude towards learning and self-development.
