Job Summary

Assist doctors and staff by caring for patients and facilities. This includes completing patient treatments, assisting doctors, and additional tasks involved in operations of a veterinary hospital.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Previous experience or training working in a veterinary facility preferred.
Must be friendly, outgoing, "people oriented" with excellent communication skills.
Must be capable of being cross trained in front office receptionist duties that include telephone and computer skills.
Must be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments.
Education and Experience
Physical Requirements
Dependable attendance is required.
Any allergies to animals must be controllable through medication.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions.
This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand and reach constantly during a minimum 10-hour day.
Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people and understand written directions.
Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, give information in person and over the telephone.
Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment such as electric clippers, syringes, radiology equipment, laboratory equipment, computers, etc.
Client Relations
Administrative and communication duties including but not limited to checking in/out, discharging, faxing/emailing patient records, verbal and written communications (phone, email, etc.), creating and reviewing treatment plans, assisting with refills as directed by a doctor, collecting deposits and relaying information to the doctor.
Agree to incorporate the principles of the VCA Mission Statement, Three Steps of Service and VCA Standards of Client Service in their daily duties.
Demonstrate excellent relations with clients/pets in waiting areas and exam rooms, including informing clients of expected wait times.
Ability to effectively communicate and educate clients on general animal husbandry and answer non-medical questions.
Patient Care
Assist doctors with examinations, treatments, diagnostics and hospitalizations as directed while being available to help assist other team members throughout the hospital as needed.
Compassionate patient care is the top priority for all patients.
Make certain all patients are kept clean and as comfortable as possible.
Ensure all patients are clearly identified with cage card, ID collars, and have a SmartFlow treatment sheet created.
Assist veterinarians to direct traffic (patients and care) and leverage staff time by efficiently organizing daily duties and medical procedures.
Pharmacy
Emergency and Triage Skills
Understand the concept of triage, basic exam, and patient assessment (without diagnosing).
Ability to recognize CPA and initiate CPR in accordance with hospital policy.
Appropriate patient restraint and donning of PPE as needed based on the patient's clinical signs, history, and/or disease process.
Housekeeping/Maintenance
Advise Leadership of any conditions that are unsafe, including unrecognized hazards or infractions of safety rules.
Examinations/Assessments
support for written documentation (SOAP's).
Ability to perform a cursory examination of an animal.
Clearly communicate your findings to doctor. Refuse to make a diagnosis.
Record Keeping
Assisting the doctors with examination notes in WoofWare's electronic medical record system by keeping medical records up to date, obtaining medical and vaccine history, etc.
Update charges, treatments, and Smartflow sheets as required.
Assisting with doctor follow up calls as required.

For hourly Associates:
VCA Animal Hospitals offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including Medical/Dental/Vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, pet care discounts, paid vacation, holidays and sick days, health and well-being programs that provide resources and training.
Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and other relevant credentials. The pay range for this position is $18.00 to $29.00 per hour.
