  • Emergency ManagementDivision has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified)Emergency Preparedness Coordinator position. This position may be filledat the entry or intermediate professional level (open rank), depending on thesuccessful candidate's education, experience and suitability for a particularposition.

Professionals at the intermediate and entry levels areresponsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personalaccountability and responsibility, and for creating, integrating, applying andsharing knowledge directly related to public safety.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited inscope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

At the entry level, duties are limited in scope and areperformed with guidance and direction from other professionals and areperformed in a training and development capacity.

Nature of Work:

The mission of the University of Colorado DenverAnschutzMedical Campus Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is to increase awareness andprovide training and exercise support to faculty, staff and students at CUDenver

Anschutz Medical Campus in order to prepare for naturaland man-made disasters, mitigate their impact when they occur, and facilitaterapid recovery and business continuity for administration, education, andresearch.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Develops and coordinates plans to mitigate, respond to, andrecovery from potential significant natural or human-caused catastrophic eventson or near the CU Denver and Anschutz Medical campuses. Ensure that these plans are in concert withlocal, regional, and state planning efforts. Examples of plans include:

  • Campus-wide and departmental Emergency Response Plans (ERPs)

  • Threat and Hazard Risk Identification Plan (THIRA)

  • Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP)

  • Support the continued development and maintenance of thecampus' Continuity of Operations (COOP) program which assists campusconstituencies in disaster recovery planning.

  • Provides public outreach services to campus students,faculty, staff, leadership, and other stakeholders. Examples of public outreach services include:

  • Emergency preparedness trainings and seminars.

  • Presentations at new faculty, staff, and student orientations.

  • Design and facilitate scenario-based tabletop exercises,drills, and functional/full-scale exercises.

  • Engaging the campus community at campus-sponsored outreachevents throughout the year.

  • Assists in providing a coordinated response with the campus

Emergency Response Team; campus leadership; other campusaffiliates/stakeholders; and local, regional, and state first responders duringcritical incidents on campus.

Salary and Benefits:

Hiring salary range has been established at $45,000 -$55,000 and is commensurate will skills and experience. No relocation expenseswill be paid, if applicable.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license.

  • Must be willing and able to pass a Police Department Background Check which will include: Personnel History Questionnaire, Integrity Interview, Polygraph, Finger Print Check, Drug Screen, Credit/Civil Check, Criminal History and Driving Infractions Check, and Reference Checks.

  • Must be willing and able to respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.

  • Candidate must provide certificates ofcompletion (no more than five years old) for the following FEMA independentstudy courses (http://training.fema.gov/is/crslist.aspx).

o Completions by date of hire:

  • ICS 100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System
  • ICS 200.b: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents
  • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  • IS-800.c: National Response Framework, An Introduction

o Completion within 6 months of date of hire:

  • IS-120.c: An Introduction to Exercises

  • IS-130.a: How to be an Exercise Evaluator

  • IS-230.d: Fundamentals of Emergency Management

  • IS-235.c: Emergency Planning

  • The candidate may be required to attend additional classroom and online FEMA courses upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior community outreach experience.

  • Experience in training and development.

  • Experience in developing emergency response and recovery plans.

Competencies / Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to design, host, and facilitate stakeholder presentations, exercises, and drills.

  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to interface with key campus and jurisdictional constituencies and stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery principles and emergency planning techniques.

  • Ability to design, host, and facilitate stakeholder presentations, exercises, and drills.

  • Familiarity with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP).

  • Ability to identify and deliver appropriate training to the higher education community.

  • Additional skills are those general administrative skills such as strategic and tactical planning, research and report writing, training and education techniques, interpretation of technical information, general computer skills, oral presentation skills, the ability to coordinate diverse work units, and to manage multiple projects and priorities.
