Physician Substitute (EMT and Paramedic's Only)

Location: Jeffersonville, IN

Center Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM
  • Saturday: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Pay Range: $23-$27 per hour (based on experience)

Certification Required: EMT or Paramedic Certification/License from the state of Indiana. NREMT certifications are not authorized for this position.

Work Schedule:

  • Must be able to work Saturdays and at least 4 other days through the week, totaling 5 days per week.
  • 40 hours per week with 8-hour shifts.

Job Title: Physician Substitute

Job Summary: The Physician Substitute is responsible for donor medical evaluations, determining donor suitability, and assessing donor adverse events.

Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Greet and register new plasma donors into the donor management computer system.

  • Conduct screening procedures, including taking blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight, and arm checks.

  • Perform finger sticks to test donors for hematocrit and total protein using screening equipment.

  • Monitor the electronic donor questionnaire system.

  • Determine donor eligibility by performing medical history interviews, physical examinations, and reviewing necessary tests.

  • Provide counseling to donors regarding unacceptable test results.

  • Initiate and assist in donor investigations regarding post-donation information.

  • Evaluate and attend to donor adverse events during the donation process.

  • Follow all standard operating procedures for medical emergencies and communicate with the Center Medical Director and Center Management as necessary.

  • Maintain compliance with all state and federal regulations, SOPs, OSHA, CLIA, cGMP, and internal Company Procedures.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.

  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor during all interactions with donors, employees, and vendors.

  • Attend all scheduled shifts and mandatory meetings on time.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Minimum one (1) year work experience preferred.

  • Active license or certification in Indiana as an EMT Basic, Intermediate, Advanced, or Paramedic.

  • CPR certification required.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential information discreetly.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • Frequent leaning, bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and lift up to fifty (50) pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Moderate noise level.

  • Exposure to freezing temperatures for short periods.

  • Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
