Under direct supervision and direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed medical professional, the Emergency Medical Technician provides general emergency care to persons served including initial examination upon in-take and responding to day-to-day medical issues with persons served and responding to medical emergencies.
Current (and must maintain) unrestricted certification or registration in state of practic
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
Valid (and must maintain) medication administration certification
Provides rapid response to apparent medical emergencies throughout the correctional facility Must be proficient in CPR and recognizing needs to use this technique Must be competent in handling emergencies utilizing basic life support equipment Assesses and identifies health problems of new persons served and develops medical record Administers prescribed treatment and medication to persons served as needed and medically required, and within licensing authorization Documents all prescription drug use for persons served according to established drug recordkeeping practices Maintains open lines of communication with providers as it relates to the persons served health needs with the medical and facility staff while maintaining confidentiality including any significant observations and patient response to care Prepares equipment and assists physician and/or physician extender during examination and treatment Sterilizes and maintains equipment so it is ready for the next use Documents medical history and treatment of persons served, using standard medical record procedures Maintains confidentiality and security of health records and protected health information (PHI) in compliance with HIPAA requirements Is aware of emergency procedures in the event of emergency or crisis situations and the appropriate plan of action governed by triage and written guidelines Willing to assist coworkers in job duties and work overtime if required and may act as a resource to other coworkers Provides clear and concise communication (written and verbal) to coworkers, supervisors, correctional facility administration and patients Provide/participate in monthly continuing education meetings within the correctional facility Maintains awareness of safety regulations and procedures at all times Meets regularly with HSA or PM to review Technician services administered to persons served Maintain positive work relationships with all coworkers, supervisors, correctional facility administration and persons served Provides medical update to incoming medical staff prior to shift change May assist in the job shadow portion of the interview process of potential staff May assist for orientation and training of new employees Perform other duties as assigned.
