School Description
Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-gender elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community. The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries; including 25 schools in the United States and Canada. The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-gender classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of approximately 600 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.
Position Description
The EMT is directly accountable to the School Nurse and provides ongoing health care to students and fosters the health and well-being of the whole child, aligned with the mission of Sacred Heart Schools as seen in the Goals and Criteria. The EMT provides first-aid care for students and staff as well as follows up with parents or emergency contacts when required. The EMT is responsible for the care of the children in the afterschool program during assigned hours.
Essential Job Functions:
Assess and provide care for students in need due to accident or illness
Provide first aid care for students and staff, and follow up with parents or emergency contacts
Notify reportable, communicable diseases, including COVID-19
Screen students for symptoms
Educate parents regarding communicable disease procedures
Assist School Nurse with on-going audit of student health records to ensure compliance, following-up with parents to address any issues
Assemble first-aid bags for offsite activities and organize SafetySacks for students with chronic conditions (allergies, asthma, etc.) in coordination with school-wide field trip calendar to ensure emergency medication is on-hand for any offsite activities
Other tasks as assigned
Qualities and Requirements:
EMT certified; two+ years of experience preferred
Knowledgeable of principles, practices, and current trends of school health care
Ability to exercise sound, professional judgment in making decisions; ability to maintain self-control and composure in challenging situations
Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with students, parents, administrators, other school personnel, both orally and in writing
Proficient in technology including online software housing student health information, MS Office, and Google Suite
Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Genuine interest in and enthusiasm for children's health and wellness (kindergarten through 8th grade)
Capacity to be self-motivated and achieve goals with minimal supervision or direction
Must be reliable, dependable, and prompt, and have a friendly, energetic demeanor
Must be a team player
