Rate of Pay: Up to $15,000 (salary commensurate with experience)

Position Summary: The medical director position is designed to oversee the appropriateness of the education programs in the Clarkson University EMS Paramedic Program. Not only the content of the programs but the decision-making process for accrediting the Paramedic program.

  • Note this is a temporary grant funded position.*

General Purpose: The medical director is responsible in approving the medical content oversight of the EMS programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve the educational content of the program curriculum for appropriateness, medical accuracy, and reflection of current evidence-informed prehospital or emergency care practices.

  • Review and approve the required minimum numbers for each of the required patient contacts and procedures listed in the standards.

  • Review and approve the instruments and processes used to evaluate students in didactic, laboratory, clinical and field internship.

  • Review the progress of each student throughout the program and assist in the determination of appropriate corrective measures when necessary.

  • Ensure the competence of each graduate of the program in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains.

  • Engage in cooperative involvement with the program director.

  • Ensure the effectiveness and quality of any medical director responsibilities delegated to another qualified physician.

  • Ensure educational interaction of physicians with students.

Essential Skills:

  • Be a practicing physician currently licensed and authorized to practice in the location of the program with experience and current knowledge of emergency care of acutely ill and injured patients.

  • Have adequate training or experience in the delivery of out-of-hospital emergency care, including the proper care and transport of patients, medical direction, and quality improvement in out-of-hospital care.

  • Be an active member of the local medical community and participate in professional activities related to out-of-hospital care.

  • Be knowledgeable about the education of the emergency medical services profession, including professional, legislative and regulatory issues regarding the education of Emergency medical Services Profession.

  • Intermediate experience Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Proven track record of ability to handle difficult conversations/situations.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Resourceful with ability to problem solve and work independently.

  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals including students, parents, faculty, and staff of the University.

  • Demonstrated flexibility with evidence of successfully working in a team environment.

  • Manage confidential information.

  • Positive attitude.

  • Planning and time management skills as well as being able to prioritize tasks in a busy academic environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Minimal Qualifications:

A practicing local and licensed physician in the field of emergency medicine.

  • Occasional travel to Clarkson University for essential meetings.
