This position is located in the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma.

Plans and administers the implementation of a statewide stroke system, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) sepsis program, and statewide STEMI system. Works to coordinate efforts with acute care centers, EMS agencies, the South Carolina Hospital Association, the American Heart Association, and any other identified stakeholder groups. Will assist in program implementation, data, performance improvement, research, education, and outreach.

Specific duties include:

Develops, implements, and monitors plans and protocols for statewide stroke/STEMI/Sepsis performance improvement. Prepare guidelines and recommendations to identify records to be reviewed by using data input into the designated registry.

Develop and maintain a regulation to carry out duties assigned by the Stroke System of Care Act 2011, and to recognize acute care facilities as stroke centers in accordance with 44-61 Article 6. Develop a strategy to include EMS, non-recognized facilities, and rehabilitation centers in the statewide PI process.

Develop and coordinate recommendations from Advisory Councils for implementation into the practice, process improvement, and continued development of the Stroke, STEMI, and Sepsis systems of care. Works with recognized centers and aspiring centers to achieve successful accreditation from nationally recognized organizations.

Available to consult with facilities to develop and improve internal processes related to the above-listed systems of care. Research resources, assess system needs, and communicate feedback to the state trauma manager and associated groups. Actively participate in all required meetings as well as system of care stakeholder groups. Promote the most current standards of care related to Stroke, STEMI, and Sepsis.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.

Preferred Qualifications

A Registered Nurse certification, Paramedic Certification, or previous experience

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.

This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control's Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma. The work performed supports DHEC's mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Public Health created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Public Health to assume the public health-related functions of DHEC.
