Duties

As an Emergency Management Specialist, you will:

  • Develop and administer the Division's emergency management programs and ensure supporting documentation is maintained and up to date.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Departmental policies and directives.

  • Coordinate disaster response or crisis management activities, providing recommendations and advice to senior level staff as required.

  • Evaluate the conformance of programs and program actions to available guides, such as pertinent laws, regulations, policies, and precedents that affect the use of program and related resources.

  • Participate in development and delivery of classes and briefings on emergency preparation, procedures, and processes.

  • Recognize hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions, develop measures to eliminate or control these conditions and effectively communicate the appropriate measures to resolve these problems.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, applicant must have one (1) year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-11 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: organizing and implementing emergency management plans and drills; managing emergency communications systems; assessing emergency program compliance with appropriate laws and regulations; and providing formal presentations on emergency management activities.

To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, applicant must have one (1) year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-12 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: developing emergency management plans; participating in working groups on emergency preparedness; assessing emergency program compliance with appropriate laws and regulations; providing formal presentations on emergency management activities; and providing training to personnel in emergency response policy and procedure.

Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements for consideration by the closing date of this announcement.
