Job Summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is hiring an Emergency Management Coordinator.

UT Southwestern is looking to hire an Emergency Management Coordinator in their Safety and Business Continuity department. The Emergency Management program is part of the Emergency Management and Business Continuity team, which is currently a four-member team within the Office of Safety and Business Continuity. The team focuses on mitigation, prevention, preparedness, planning, response, and recovery from emergency events that impact campus operations.

This role includes providing Emergency Management training as part of newcomers orientation and decontamination training to all staff.

Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public health, or related field and five (5) years directly related experience required. Experience includes establishing and communicating program goals, complex strategies and objectives.

  • Higher level education can be substituted for experience.

  • Additional years of experience can be substituted for education requirement.

Job Duties

  • Develops and maintains emergency plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines to address all hazards to UT Southwestern Medical Center. Documents emergency incidents, drills, after action plans, and associated follow-up.

  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts emergency management related training, drills, and exercises for the institution.

  • Leads the institutional emergency mass communication system implementation, operation, and maintenance. Liaisons with weather service providers for timely weather related notifications.

  • Coordinates communication of emergency information to the campus in cooperation with other applicable departments including emails, phone lines, website, television monitors, etc.

  • Ensures compliance with applicable emergency management requirements including local, state, federal and the joint commission hospital requirements.

  • Responds to emergency incidents on campus. Coordinates preparation and response to emergencies including hazardous materials incidents.

  • Maintain portable radios for emergency use.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Work requires ability to utilize Microsoft Suite, including spreadsheets and databases, i.e. Excel, Access.

  • Work requires excellent customer service.

  • Work requires excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Work requires ability to adapt rapidly to changing circumstances.

  • Work requires ability to work effectively under tight timelines and on high profile projects.

  • Work requires skill in being detail oriented and accurate while performing duties.

  • Work requires ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, executive management, department heads, external agencies and members of the UT Southwestern community.

  • Work requires ability to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities.

  • Work requires ability to handle moderate to high levels of stress, meet deadlines, and solve problems appropriate to the position.

Working Environment

Work is performed primarily in a general office area.
