Job Description:

Intermountain Health's St. Joseph Hospital, a 400-bed acute-care hospital and level IV trauma center, is searching for their next Emergency Room Nursing Director to lead a robust ED seeing nearly 60k patients per year.

The Nursing Director is responsible for providing leadership and operational direction to the 42 bed Emergency department at St. Joseph Hospital, along with a 15 bed Clinical Decision Unit, and North Glenn, a free standing eight bed facility.

The director works in partnership with the CMO, CNO, other Nursing and physician leadership, and facility management to ensure optimal patient care, attainment of financial goals, and development of leaders. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the director has tactical, operational, and strategic responsibilities to ensure appropriate staffing, availability of equipment, and employee relations (day-to-day activities), along with budget management, budget development, supply acquisition, process improvement, developing goals to meet the Intermountain/Regional Strategic Plan and holding employees accountable to goals.

This is an exempt, full-time position located in the Front Range of Colorado (Denver Metro area). To show our commitment to you and assist with your transition into our organization, we offer 10k sign-on and a 10k relocation bonus when applicable.

With this position, you are eligible to participate in an annual pay-for-performance opportunity ("AP4P"). This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Intermountain Health Board-approved goals.

As the ED Nursing Director you will:

  • Oversee and direct day-to-day operations and in which clinical nursing is practiced.

  • Develop the strategic planning process, standards of care, and attainment of organizational goals.

  • Direct collaborative problem solving among interdepartmental disciplines.

  • Allocate available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice.

  • Create an environment of shared decision-making and professional autonomy by providing input into executive-level decisions, and by keeping managers informed of executive level activities.

  • Implement the vision, mission, core values of the Nursing Philosophy of CARING and Intermountain Health's Healing Commitments.

  • Remain accountable for the financial management of designated departments/service lines, which includes the development, implementation and monitoring of annual capital/operating and personnel (FTEs) budgets.

  • Provide support and education to department managers for meeting financial goals.

  • Model and foster an environment of professionalism, along with ensuring competent and sufficient number of leadership staff to meet department and patient care needs.

  • Guide the development of recruitment, retention, and employee satisfaction that keeps high performers in place and maintains focus on succession planning.

  • Act as a role model through the demonstration of personal professional development, continuous learning and competency improvement.

  • Participate in and contribute to educational offerings and visibility in professional organizations.

  • Assure the delivery of safe high-quality patient care through ongoing process evaluation and reviewing clinical outcome metrics.

  • Implement clinical program protocols and ensure ongoing monitoring and process improvement occurs to assure goals are achieved.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited university is required. Either the bachelor's or master's degree must be in Nursing. Degree will be verified. May consider a candidate currently enrolled in a Master's program. We may consider a candidate who is enrolled in and near graduation of a Master's program.

  • Three (3) years of progressive nursing leadership is required.

  • Highly prefer 5 years of progressive leadership experience in the Emergency Room.

  • A Colorado RN License is required. If necessary, prefer a compact RN license to permanent CO withing 6 months.

  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS) for healthcare providers is required.

  • Must have two (2) years clinical experience.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$52.46 - $96.21
