Responsibilities
Working under minimal supervision, utilizes regulatory and HIPAA requirements, cultural sensitivity guidelines, Indiana Nurse Practice Act, Emergency Nurses Association standards, infection control requirements, and KDH organizational and nursing values, policies, and procedure, to ensure safe, quality patient care for all age groups. Duties include but are not limited to:
Assists Nursing Director in coordinating integration of services for achievement of planned patient outcomes and facilitates patient flow through the Emergency Department
Meets all Emergency Department RN General Summary requirements in order to assume patient care as needed
Utilizes proper technique when lifting, transferring, and ambulating patients for safety of self, patient, and other staff
Ability to function in high stress situations and react appropriately
Exemplifies and promotes professional practice
Provides and coordinates the resources needed (i.e. staffing) within the department to provide optimal patient care based on certification, competency completion, etc. in accordance with the Delineation of Duties, regulatory requirements, etc.
Ensures compliance and adherence with stated policies and procedures for the department
Takes a leadership role in building and maintaining an environment which fosters open and candid communication
Supervises staff and facilitates communication with physicians and director to provide optimal patient and family-centered care
Serves as a mediator in resolution of conflicts between nursing staff
Takes appropriate action to coach employees and correct unacceptable communication/behavior as needed
Identifies managerial problems and initiates QAPI process
Actively participates in preparation of regulatory agency reviews
Assists in administrative activities such as budget planning, identifying means of cost containment
Identifies, recognizes and responds to the needs of unit staff to ensure that staff has the resources and tools available to maintain a safe; comfortable and therapeutic environment for patient and family
Takes appropriate action to address customer concerns and complaints (i.e., appropriate follow-up with Director and risk management)
Refers escalated patient issues to Director or House Shift Supervisor when unable to resolve
Ensures compliance with educational requirements through scheduling, planning, and support
Utilizes excellent customer service standards and Studer principles in communicating with patient, family, and coworkers through use of verbal amenities, pleasant facial and body expressions as well as pleasant voice tone
Contributes to the performance appraisal process
Participates in patient experience initiatives
Actively participates in the hiring, counseling, and termination of employees as appropriate

Qualifications
BSN required for positions accepted after April 2016. Possesses and maintains Indiana RN licensure. Minimum of three years clinical experience in Emergency Nursing with Certified Emergency Nurse certification preferred. Required:

Possesses excellent problem solving abilities including follow-up and reporting
Calmly and confidently handles highly stressful situations
Energetic and motivated
Requires ability to provide compassion, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and critical thinking in a therapeutic environment appropriate to age and diagnosis of patients served
Excellent oral communication skills to discuss patient care needs
Excellent non-verbal communication skills (presence, touch, eye contact, etc.) with patients, families and other staff
Written communication skills as well as computer skills for documentation in the medical record
Ability to exercise independent judgment as well as to react quickly, appropriately, and efficiently in any situation
Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice, as well as human and psycho-social needs, and the ability to apply nursing techniques to patient care situations and provide an individualized plan of care to the patient as well as assist other nursing personnel in meeting patient needs
Demonstrates accountability for own actions, understands own limitations, seeks advice and assistance when necessary, and assume responsibility for personal growth and skill development
Demonstrates openness to change and new learning
Excellent customer service skills
Maintains AHA BLS, AHA ACLS/ACLS-EP, AHA PALS
Recommend certification in ENA TNCC, and ENA ENPC
