JOB SUMMARY:

The Emergency Care Associate/Medical Assistant works with the team, the Registered Nurse(RN), and other health team members, to provide direct patient care. As a member of the Patient Care Team, the Associate/Assistant is cross-trained to perform a wide range of essential patient services.

The Associate/Assistant performs a variety of basic population specific duties to assist in the care of the patients under the direction of the RN who has determined appropriate tasks for delegation. The Associate/Assistant makes observations as directed by the RN and reports deviations to the RN.

Performs general patient care including. Obtains and records vital signs records Intake and Output and others as assigned by nurse.

Collects specimens (i.e., urine, stool, sputum) and ensures timely transport of specimens to the lab. Lifts, ambulates and transports patient. Seeks assistance as needed.

Positions patient and performs range of motion. Accurately charts patient information following the guidelines for charting by standards. Prepares patient for meals, distributes food trays, feeds patient and removes trays.

Conducts Hourly Rounding as Demonstrates competency in providing population specific care determined by patient populations served. Anticipates patient's needs and responds in a timely manner to patient and other caregiver requests. Provides friendly assistance to patient's family members and visitors.

Acts as a liaison and support person for family members. Conveys needs to appropriate personnel.

Required: Basic EMT or Approved Medical Assistant

Required: BLS - American Heart Association

Experience: EMS or medical assistant experience, Phlebotomy experience preferred, Computer literacy

The Unit Secretary often fulfills the role of the first interaction visitors and patient in the inpatient unit. The interaction between the Unit Secretary and other members is key to ensuring a safe, patient centered work environment. Essential Job Functions * Ensure call lights and telephone are answered in timely. Responds to call lights and patient needs. Assists with meal tray delivering when necessary. * Answers phone calls and questions from patients/clients, visitors, volunteers, medical staff, and co-workers. Provides assistance, guidance, and direction to visitors, patients/families, employees and other departments as necessary. * Completes inpatient call backs as directed by management. * Performs checks to notify consulting physicians of inpatient consults as needed. Schedules discharge follow up appointments. Assists in recording traumas and codes within the facility. Employment Qualifications Education Qualifications - List the minimum education, training, and experience required to perform the essential functions of the position. Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED Specialty/Major: Preferred Education: Specialty/Major: Licensing/ Certification - If registration, certification or licensure is required, include the name of the accrediting or licensing body. Licensure/Certification Required: BLS Required (Youngstown, Tiffin, Cincinnati (within 30 days, Springfield within first 6 months) Licensure/Certification Preferred: Tiffin: STNA preferred Minimum Qualifications Minimum Years and Type of Experience: Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Proficient computer/typing skills. Youngstown Region - Must complete medical terminology class within one year of hire. Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Prefer at least 6 months previous medical experience or healthcare experience in a hospital or physician office setting.
