Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists (CCVS) is a growing specialty and emergency-critical care hospital in Buzzards Bay and Dennis, MA. With more than 20 specialists across nine specialties, our highly skilled and compassionate team works to ensure pets receive quality, gold-standard medical care. As the only emergency and specialty referral hospital serving Cape Cod and the Islands, CCVS continues to grow to keep up with the needs of our community. We are looking for enthusiastic and experienced veterinary professionals who welcome the challenge of meeting the highest standards for quality and performance while possessing a friendly and positive team-player approach.

Primary Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care to patients presented to their assigned Service. This includes examining patients, ordering diagnostics, diagnosing, and prescribing treatments.

  • Have primary case responsibility when on the emergency and critical care service

  • Have direct overlap and guidance from criticalists and experienced staff veterinarians on more than 70% of their shifts.

  • Communicate with clients and referring veterinarians.

  • Participate in journal club, mortality and morbidity rounds, and attend cage-side rounds with specialists twice daily.

  • Present a lecture on a topic of their choosing.

Our goal is to support doctors who strive for excellence in private practice and encourage a critical thinking decision-making process in their medicine. The CCVS internship is dedicated to promoting animal health and well-being by offering educational opportunities both for and by the interns and residents, as well as providing exceptional veterinary care. On-the-floor mentorship expands our doctors' professional development and leadership skills, in addition to medical growth.

Specialists

CCVS provides immeasurable support for the program's interns. Our Dennis facility also has a board-certified cardiologist and a board-certified ophthalmologist with limited hours. We are actively recruiting additional specialists in various specialties.

  • Criticalists (7)

  • Internist (1)

  • Anesthesiologist (1)

  • Radiologist (1)

  • Dermatologist (1)

  • Surgeons (7)

  • Cardiologist (1)

  • Exotic (1)

Support Staff

We have expanded our support team to help maximize the quality of life for CCVS employees. The staff includes

  • Over 60 veterinary technicians, including licensed and VTS technicians

  • Assistants and liaisons

  • Doctors' Assistants for medical record support

  • A veterinary social worker for support of both our clients and employees.

Schedule, Benefits, Salary

  • The schedule is four days per week

  • These are 11 hours for busier and 13 hours for less busy shifts.

  • Combination of days, evenings, and overnight shifts

  • A critical care specialist is in the building and available for questions 7 days per week

  • Potential for scheduled on-call shifts.

  • These shifts may encompass overnights and weekend days to provide additional coverage for one-on-one patients, overwhelming caseload, or coverage for sick call-outs.

  • Per diem pay is offered if more than one sick call-out coverage shift is needed over the course of the year.

  • Two weeks of vacation

  • One week of paid CE per year

  • CE allowance

  • Moving allowance

  • Competitive salary based on industry standards

Qualifications

  • Any interested candidate must have graduated from an AVMA-accredited veterinary college, as a license to practice in the US is required

  • All applicants must be eligible for a license to practice in the United States.

  • Graduates of veterinary schools not approved by the AVMA must have completed the ECFVG process or similar, prior to application to the program
